Main Street Comps

Has anybody else noticed that the comps at MSS seem to be tightening up? We have spent the last 14 Super bowl weekends there since the Packer/Bronco game in 1998 and always enjoyed gold card status along with invites to their big Super Bowl Party. This year we got the boot from the big party and ended up as a last minute addtition to a smaller party that they ran in the Pullman Grille. I can't see where our play has dropped, from 2006-2009 the two of us had a coin-in of $1,088,041 over 48 days which averages out to $22668 a day. The win/loss statement for 2010 doesn't tell us our coin-in, only that we showed a loss of $4600 for the 12 days we were there. I can't understand what happened and I can't get anyone to give us an answer either. We were planning to go back for another week this summer but if our play isn't good enough to get an invite to next years Superbowl(if there is one)we might have to start looking for a different place to stay and spend a week with them this summer to get us comped next year.
I too have noticed a HUGE drop in offers from all of the Boyd properties. MSS was the first free room comp I ever recieved back in 2000. Over the past 11 years I have stayed there frequently, and the free rooms from MSS were always the one offer I could always count on. I would say that I have stayed there 9 or 10 times over the past 11 years. My play there has not dramatically changed, but the offers from MSS slowly have gotten worse, and have now gone all the way away. April is the first month in 10 years that I don't have a free room offer.

I have always loved Main Street Station, and still spend at least a little time there every trip. Unfortunately, with the offers drying up I am considering making my downtown stop El Cortez. I know longer need the safety of knowing I can get free rooms at MSS in a pinch as I now get free rooms every month from every Station property and M Resort. For my trip the second week of April, I am going to hit MSS to eat at the brewpub, but will not be gambling there. I think I am going to spread some play between El Cortez and 4 Queens and see what kind of offers are generated.

I don't know what is going on with the Boyd properties, as my offers from all of theier establishments have dried up. So in April I will be staying 2 nights at The Silverton, Red Rock, and M Resort. Red Rock and M are nicer than any Boyd property so I guess I really shouldn't complain. For some reason though, it is a little sad knowing that my sure thing free room is no longer available to me.

Mine were never at your level, but they have tightened up. I used to get 4 nights, a food coupon book, and $75-$100 in slot play. And the coupon book didn't include Pullman or Redwood Grille, but I would always get a comp for a dinner there.

Now I get 4 nights and $35 in slot play, with no food comps, although I will charge some food to my room and they'll cover it.

My play did not decrease - it probably increased a bit. I typically play around $6K per day. The same play gets me 3 nights with all food and $200 in slot play at the Four Queens. As a result, instead of staying at MSS 2 or 3 times per year, I'll stay there once.

I attribute the cutback in comps to the fact that I play 9/6 jacks. Given my choice of playing that game and getting better offers for playing slots with a much higher edge, I'll play jacks and take fewer comps.
I think we are going to take a look at Red Rock also. I still get the monthly offers for the three night free stay and the $25 slot dollars, my wife gets better offers as her card is a emerald and I am a lowly saphaire. It just pisses me off that after all these years of going back waiting for another Packer Super Bowl that we get dumped from the party and then no explaniation. I have friends who stay at Fitzgeralds who gamble less than I do that got invited to a big party so I know that they offers are out there. If Boyd thinks that they can squeeze more out of customers in todays economy the way they did years back when the economy was booming they are in for a surprise.

It sounds like you play about the level that I alone do, my wife plays twice as much as I do which combined with my play always got us the better comps. I would not worry about playing 9/6 jacks at MSS, whatever machines have 10/7 Double Double at MSS are marked that it takes $3 coin in to earn one point. If you plany the 9/6 game in those machines you do play a penalty but I'm sure that there are other banks of machines that have 9/6 with out the penalty. We switched to 9/6 DDB two years ago in machines that were not marked for the extra coin-in for points and it still wasn't good enough for them
I've been getting the same MSS offers for years and all of that stopped in January. I play the EXACT coin-in everytrip. Shame, I used to love MSS.
Put in a good days play at 4 Queens and they are VERY generous w/ their rooms food and FP
I agree with you we really enjoyed it to, I'm going to call the Plaza and see how their roon renovation is progressing. I really don't want to quit staying downtown, I can't give up those beautiful bartenders at the Golden Gate!
Thanks for the tip, are the rooms there in decent shape?
It's funny I stiffed the Cal on an offer last summer and MSS sent me two nights for March which I took.

I have some strange luck...
