Palms is out

The Palms is the most expensive Stations casino to keep running, during these times.
Currently ALL casinos in Vegas are closed. This notice for the Palms states that the Palms will be temporarily closed. This notice is being posted so that the Stations Casinos can terminate the employment of it's employees.
At least they're still paying healthcare benefits through Sep. Likely they'll be back open by then. Interesting to see if employees are invited back to their old jobs at their previous wage or if they will have to re-apply and possibly at a lower wage.
Watch this space. Casino treatment of workers is the kinda thing that will determine where I play .
It's been 6 months now and time for The Palms to re-open. That place is so popular and had undergone such improvement, especially at the buffet. There is no reason for them not to open and no reason not to open their buffet. They already mostly had individual serving dishes.
This answer probably goes somewhere else, but ya gotta know it has a lot to do with how much money is being "saved" by not opening hotels/casinos fully (everywhere). The longer they keep buffets closed, more dollars not spent on staff (and food and sanitation, etc.). Same for housekeeping. Staff is almost always the largest expense of places like hotels, hospitals, etc. They've presumably lost a gazillion from lack of gambling revenue during the shut down. Where to make it up? Six months or more not spending on this and that will add up.
As always, JMHO.

My take on this is that Stations overfed during the casino boom era by acquiring WAY too many properties. The Fiestas acquisitions were dumb moves. So was the Palms assimilation. The former move resulted in casinos across the street from one another competing for the same business (Texas Station and Fiesta Rancho) and the latter, the acquisition of a casino that was vastly different from the Stations brand. At the same time, they built Aliante, Red Rock, and Copernicus Crater Station (on the moon).
At some point, these casinos started to cannibalize each others' business. It was OK as long as Vegas was booming. But when things started to slow down---Stations was in big trouble, and quickly.
So I think now they realize that they simply owned too many casinos and were competing with themselves. I expect them to eventually dump all the properties that are currently not open--and don't even expect them to reopen in the meantime, even if we do all get Trump's miracle vaccine.
