Resort Fee raised at the Orleans and Gold Coast

I was looking for room rates mid December and noticed they raised the resort fee to $35.14. For this you get free local calls and internet.

Big whoop! I get both on my phone.

What frosts my ass is that a lot of those things that hotels ostensibly charge resort fees for aren't even available, such as exercise rooms and pools. So if anything, they should be REDUCING their resort fees.

I think Howard was being sarcastic

What a gut shot to the consumer! You would think maybe they could reduce or even suspend the resort fees! But, they have all gotten so drunk on screwing the customer that they just look for ways to insert it just a bit deeper!

Hotels charging resort fees and charging for parking. They're making it harder to get a comped drink at the machines! Raising prices on food and drink. How much more are people willing to take before we just start staying away long enough for them to lose enough money to start coming back down to earth?! People won't though. Our parents and grandparents would have! Now a days people want to cut loose and have fun no matter how much it costs them!

The beauty of it is that they are making their own choice with their OWN money NOT yours.

Not true. When foolish jonesing gamblers flood into Vegas, perfectly willing to spread their legs for the casinos and pay them anything they ask, that makes Vegas more expensive for those of us who have some discretion and price consciousness.

If even a relatively small percentage of potential Vegas visitors looked at current conditions and prices and just laughed, shook their heads, and said "no way," I guarantee you that prices would plummet.

I guess I have no desire to tell other's how to spend their money. I was out in June and paid nothing for a room for the week. I will say airfare and car rental were high but that's not exclusive to Vegas.

I also have no desire to tell others how to spend their money.

When I was young and with little money, I would drive 25 hours for vacation.  I didn't have the money for airfare and rental cars.  Now I fly and rent.  Everyone's situation is different.

I have a buddy that is worth say $25 million, and he will drop $400 for a round or two of golf in Cabo without a second thought.  I would also do that if I had his money, but I don't.  He also spent $130,000 for 50 hours on a private jet to be used over a two year period.  After the two years was complete he decided that it was nice, but not worth the money for him.  If he had $100 million in the bank, I suspect he would always fly on a private jet.

Getting pissed at people who spend more money than me would be waste of time and energy.  Being constantly jealous of other folk's lifestyles must be a terrible way to go through life.  I'm happy for my buddy.

No one's telling anyone "how to spend their money." I was just pointing out that when people spend foolishly, it makes it that much harder for people who don't want to spend foolishly to get a decent deal.

There's also the ridiculous cultural meme of the admiration of people who piss away huge sums of money "without a second thought," as Boiler puts it. Well, maybe they have so much money that they no longer care. Bully for them--but I know that many people work long hours to earn less money in a month that Joe Golddick is putting on the the table for a single blackjack bet, and I don't admire him for it. In fact, I think he's a fool.

I happen to be in a personal financial situation where I actually could spend a week in Vegas right now and pay the insane high prices, but I just don't want to. It's not about the money. It's about not being ripped off. I suppose that if that golf course in Cabo charges Joe Golddick $800 instead of $400, he still won't care--but he'll still be getting ripped off.
