The RIO - any suggestions?

Great pics Lisa (waiting for your trip report) and good feedback Rykorbyl.

T- 6 weeks and 3 days!
My room had a keurig.
I also have a pic of the sleeping area that isn't resizing properly. If I can get that to work, I'll post.
I was there last weekend on the Big Game offer. Although I don't play table games, I checked out a few things for a friend.

Sat. afternoon I saw $10 and $15 crap tables. Do not know what the "odds" are.
Sat. around 7 pm, saw $10 and $50 blackjack tables. Some of the $10 tables were single deck. Did not interrupt the games to ask the rules.
Sun. around 6 pm, pai gow tables were $15 & $25.

The sports book, bar in front of the sports book, and American Bar and Gill have several TV's available for watching games and were packed. Big Game Party was held in Pavillion Ballroom and was set for 1600 people, 160 tables of 10.

It's probably been 5 or so years since I've stayed at Rio as I stay on the strip or at off strip properties. This weekend exceeded my expectations and, all things equal, I would stay there again.

Great intel there Lisa. And sounds like the Rio will be just fine for me next month!! For lower paigow I may just walk over to the Gold Coast!

Are you going to post a TR Lisa? I have been wondering how the Big Game Party was- we got the invite but could not go.

It's been a while since I stayed at Rio (last time was November 2011) but my mother and I prefered the rooms in the Ipanema Tower more and we found parking there was better and closer than parking for the Masquerade Tower.

Probably not. About the party - it was held in the Pavillion ballroom with 1600 of your closest friends, 160 tables of 10. Prior to the party, one needed to pick up their ticket with table assignment, wrist band and swag (NFL licensed t-shirt and hat). One needed the wrist band to enter that area. With the wrist band, one could come and go as they please.

Betting stations were set up outside the room. Inside, there was a complementary bar to the left, a buffet with stadium type food, build your own hamburger, sirloin sliders, assorted potato salads, shrimp ceviche, fruit, brats, chips, guacamole, etc. Near the coffee station was a build your own taco station, and an assortment of cookies and brownies were available at the dessert station. It looked like the same set up was on the other side of the room. They had servers going around offering patrons bottled water and clearing plates.

It looked like there were buckets of beer preset on the tables and there were small containers of prepackaged nuts and popcorn or caramel corn. The game was projected on numerous large and medium sized screens located around the perimeter of the room. One could see the game from every seat. I went to watch the half-time show and probably would have stayed had the power not gone out.

The sportsbook and American Bar & Grill were packed. I was playing in the area near the sportsbook when the game started. It was cool to see everyone in that area stop and pay attention to the National Anthem as it was sung. I happened to be heading back to my room when the game ended and felt like a fish swimming upstream as the traffic flow was heading in the opposite direction. I could tell Baltimore
won by the expressions and attire worn by others.

As you can probably tell, I wasn't into the game as I don't have an allegiance to either team. However, it was a really fun time to be in Vegas.
Thanks all for the information! I am so excited that Rio has Keurig Coffee Machines in the rooms! I'll sprint over to Walmart & buy some Kcups!
Weve stayed at Rio over & over...yes it is a little dated - however we love the extra large suites - we do not spend a lot of time in our room but when we do decide to just call it an early evening - we love the spacious room!
We are going March 19th - 26th and can't wait! Celebrating 13 yrs & going to see Penn & Teller! Yay!
I want to check out El Cortez VP - wish us luck!
I just returned from the Rio. The info on this thread was spot on. I am Diamond, We were placed in the IP Tower 18th floor. The rooms have a fridge and a Keurig. We got off the plane picked up our rental car. Drove to the store bought a case of pop, water and a box of K-cups some half and half. we were set for the week! I enjoyed the Rio and would gladly stay there again.

Joe
