When I first stating going to Las Vegas in the early 90's, the Sahara had a fantastic video poker inventory. The gutting of that inventory, combined with awful food and rooms resulted in me not going in the place in the last seven or eight years.
The Stratosphere will be next, having gone to LV for the past 25 years and staying at the Strat. many times, I now have found myself not staying or gambling there for at least 10 years. This intersection is at the ends of the earth to us gambling public.
Well, that's a shame. Being a definite low-roller, I always liked the older joints on the north end of the strip and I seemed to have pretty good luck at the Sahara. I will especially miss their 50-for-40 promo and the match plays. My wife and I usually make our annual trip to Vegas in late April/early May, but probably won't be able to do that this year due to family commitments. I would have liked to play there once more before it closes...

I was at the Strat a month ago. completely packed. not going anywhere.
For anyone who wants a good deal on that end of the strip, I read that Riviera is offering 2 midweek nights totally free - no strings attached - and discounts for additional nights. Great deal for anyone looking for a new home from the Sahara. My own choice is still Hilton at that end of the strip - they give me some really great deals and have the best video poker, and cocktail servers who always bring me double Chivas. At Christmas we spent 2 nights at the Aquarius in Loughlin and now the Strat is sending me offers - same owners.
