Sam's Town, first time

Gonna be there for a couple of nights in March, mainly as a place to lay my hat, just curious how people like it as a base.  I usually stay at Orleans, which I'll also be for a couple of nights but going through Boyd offers for the time I'll be there gave me 3 free nights at Sam's Town so I'll give it a shot, just wondering if I'll be hanging out there much or strictly as a place to sleep.  I've only eaten at the buffet there so that's obviously not an option anytime soon, how are the other restaurants?

10 years ago we stayed there a lot and liked it as a second place to stay after the Orleans. When they eliminated there gold card for food, then Billy Bobs and other restaurants along with the removal of a lot of poker/slot machines it was time to leave.  East side Cannery is still closed across the street so your kind of isolated. I don't know if they offer the free shuttle to downtown/strip.  We still stop in and use our LVA coupons and stay a little while but that's it.  Rooms are equal with Orleans, there fine.

We have found the rooms to be in need of an update, not as nice as as the Gold Coast, which we concider below Orleans rooms.  Last   2 times we cut our stay short and moved to another option.  If you have the option to double book, I would do so to be safe.  The Angry Butcher is over priced, but we stop in and use the coupon for the apps and dessert.  The secret bar upstairs in our go to.   have fun

Good to know, thank you Jokare and Brent

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best:

Condition of the property: 5 (peeling and fading)

Gambling: 5 (used to be 10) (they killed almost all their good VP; table game limits are low)

Restaurants: 4 (the absence of the buffet is not a negative; it sucked)

Hotel rooms: 4 (at best)

Offers/deals: 2 (used to be 9)

Location of property: 3 (isolated)

Variety of things to do: 8

Prices: 4 (used to be 9)

Slot club: -47,000,000 (used to be 8)

Resort fees: 1 (what resort?)

Parking: 7 (though a bit distant from the casino, plenty of it, and free)

Good post, Kevin!

Can you see a movie or go bowling there, still?

Not sure about the free shuttle to the California.

I used it a few times 6 years ago and it was great!

I have stayed there about 5 or 6 times always comped. Large property,  not upscale or fancy. If you want a bite to eat without a reservation,  there's Subway,Panda Hut, Mc Donalds, Mexican place and the Deli over by the sportsbook.I play mostly video poker, Bonus Poker. Plenty of 8/5 machines throughout. Poker room was closed on trip couple weeks ago.Always asked for an atrium view room and got it.Rooms have been renovated about a year now.Used to have live music during weekend, not now though.

Used to be one of the more player friendly casinos in town with a lot of good, reasonably priced places to eat.   Boyd just seemed to not put much money into it over time and it's showing it's age.    There's lots of fun, small casinos nearby like Klondike and Jokers  Wild...and the water street complex...so there's that.

one good thing about Boyd casinos is they typically have good craps tables.... 20x odds.not sure about Sams
