The old Continental was a sawdust joint--a real dump, truth be told. It did offer some decent bargains, BUT--it had a horrible reputation for canceling those bargains without warning. Just my own experience: they had a promotion, supposedly for the entire month, where you played $1000 in their slots/VP and got $20 cash back. However, when I went to the player's club to claim my bonus, I found out that it had been canceled, without notice or warning, several hours ago. I also remember the $6.99 steak and eggs breakfast special ringing up at the register at $11.99--because the promo had been canceled that morning.
So the "nostalgia" that the name "Continental" evokes, for me at least, is that of a seedy dump run by liars and crooks. Whee, it's back!!
Many years ago a friend of mine said she and her hubby always stayed at The Continental (was "The" in the name?) I recall her saying "It's older but their slots pay off real well." Never been in the place then or now (always intended to, but ya know...), but apparently a fair bunch of visitors liked it at the time.
