Silverton

I am intrigued by this place. It turns out I have two extra days on my coming vacation. I can stay free at Red Rock or the Palms and gamble a lot. Or free at the Fitz or the El and gamble a little. Or pay $29.95/night at Silverton. My play will almost certainly get me comped, but it doesn't look like they have very good VP. Should I consider South Point? I've never set foot in that place, and they send me discounted offers.

I have never stayed there, but have dropped by enough to get on their radar. Does anybody particularly like the place? Why? I mostly hang out, not a big show-goer. Maybe a little time by/in the pool. It's hard to tell if it's an overgrown motel or a nice small hotel. Any comments appreciated.
I am a big fan of the South Point, have stayed there the last four trips and am booked there later this fall. The restaurants are mostly excellent and they treat me well. I'm mostly a table game player ($10-$15 bj, ~ 3 hrs per day) and have gotten the last two stays comped and pretty much all meals comped the last four stays. VP players seem to have no problems getting comped as well. I'd be glad to answer any specific questions but I would definitely recommend you try SP.
South Point much better on so many levels...
Thanks. Maybe I'll check them out. The more I'm thinking about it, though, the more I'm leaning toward Red Rock, even if it is in the Boonies. I'll be in Vegas almost two weeks (!!!!) beause of various SNAFUs elsewhere, and by then I might just be frazzled enough to want to stay put. OTOH, I haven't stayed in a new place for several years, and it's always good to keep things fresh.

I think I'm pretty much off Silverton, though.

I'd say if you were going to be in Vegas for two weeks, give SP a try for a couple of nights at least. That way you'll get a feel for if it's a place you'll want to stay at in the future.

Stayed at Silverton in 2007. I really like the place. The decor and the layout of the casino is very relaxing and having a huge Bass Pro shop hooked onto it is great too (If you are into the kind of stuff they carry).

The rooms are basic, but very clean and the service is great. Relatively minimal play will get you lots of offers too.
I called South Point and will be checking it out in July. Thanks for you input. It's the first new place I will have stayed at in years. Except I'm also staying at the Cosmo before that. Two new places! My head is spinning.
It is worth noting that South Point just doesn't market to out of towners. There mailers are just pathetic. Silverton on the other hand gives really good mailers for out of towners. If SP marketed like Silverton it would be the best bet for all VP players. But it doesn't...
I just returned from my 2nd visit to Silverton. I enjoy the place, it is laid back, employees are very helpful and friendly. I found a good selection of VP progressives at the bars. I enjoy Bailey's and coffee and Silverton's serves Starbucks coffee with the Bailey's. The buffet is really good and for seniors (50 +) there is a special daily buffet for $5 - I don't remember the exact days, but check out their website for times. The beds are pillow top and extremely comfortable. I find the location great (if one has a car) for visiting "M" Resort, South Point, and I-15 is there for easy travel/access to the strip and downtown. Silverton is very close to the airport(one exit north on I-15) and takes all of 10 minutes to get to the rental car facility. The room offers are easy to get with minimal play. All in all, I found it to be a great place to stay and use as a base for my stay in Vegas. Give Silverton a shot, I don't believe you will be disappointed. Just for information sake, I decided to try Silverton after reading all of the things that Bagiant had to say about his stays there. I concur with his assessment.
