Skipping Stations Next Vegas Visit - Well maybe not...see July visit comments.

Just curious capt Bill. I have been extremely dissappointed with Stations lately, however they sent me a 3 nights comp offer after I had booked 2 nights at Southpoint (they showed me a lot of love in march) and 5 at Paris. Hotel wise there is no comparison beteween South point and RR but the feel from Southpoint is fabulous. I booked the 3 nights at RR (2 overlap with Southpoint) but as I get close to 8/13, I know I'm gonna have to make a decision.

Any thoughts since it appears that you 2 have experiences at both casinos!!

Could be Rec. Just got back from another visit and this one included a stay at Sunset Station (where we havn't stayed in probably 10 years). The host there has been trying to get me to come back and offered me $200 in FP and an upgraded room. When I checked in there was no indication of an upgraded room so I mentioned to the hotel manager that it probably would not get me back from RR. He said, let me take care of you. Boy, he sure did!! The nicest suite we've stayed in...4 rooms and about 1000 Square feet. We were impressed! Have to think hard about going back there in October rather than the RR.
And the nice thing about Sunset (other than the beautiful casino) is its FP DDB on all the slant tops at the $ level. It also helps that I was really lucky and walked away with my sixth biggest win ever.
Went by GVR for dinner one evening and we became really disenchanted with the casino. About half of the FP DDB machines (slant tops) had disappeared and the President VIP line at the buffet was combined with a very long handicapped line. We didn't bother staying and went off the RR for dinner.
First 3 nights of visit was at Southpoint and we had a great time (never stayed there before). My wife missed a $1,000 win in the slot tournament by less than a 100 points, but I broke even on the DDB and put thru about 35K, so we expect to be invited back.

I've read about stuff like this happening (different and possibly increasingly better offers from different places sent out to attract not necessarily established players there) for years (including from Queen Jean) and places at least many times want to do what they can to attract at least what seems to them to be these unestablished players. And then, when you haven't been to a place in a while, they then may very well send out "We Miss You" types of offers.

Champs, I would have to go with RR. We enjoyed our stay at SP and they did have FP slant top DDB machines, but we just never got the feel of being at home there. The tournament was composed of two 5 minute sessions, which is not a whole lot of fun (sort of just getting thru it). The buffet was nice but not comparable to RR.
Now if I was comparing SP to Orleans or ST, they would win hands down for the quality of the rooms, buffet and machines. Of course I get a suite and gold card at Sams, so they win for me.
The other thing that is in the back of my mind, is that points at SP are only good at SP, whereas the others have a variety of casinos to play at (especially Boyd with casinos in the east). You can only spread your gambling so far, if you want to be treated as a VIP...so I will probably keep most of my gambling at Stations and Boyd in Vegas and CET in Tunica and Biloxi (where they offer FP machines).
Thanks Capt. Nuff said

we, too, try to stay in the good graces of both boyd and stations in vegas. as capt. bill says, you only have so many gaming dollars to spread around.
our experiece the last 18 months or so has been better offers (tournaments, concerts) through boyd, but better payouts at stations (especially, Boulder).
since we have a gazellon points with both, we'll take the gaming action anytime, and ride that streak as long as it lasts. i admit, though, we miss the gold card offer from ST (wife got one for about 14 months in a row; stopped early this year).
we average about 24-25 days a year in vegas
Nickles, a suggestion about keeping points. I've been quilty of keeping them too, usually a minimum of 500K at each. It occurred to me that this was really dumb (thanks to other posters) and I have started taking money out in cash so I have no more than about 200K in points at either one when we leave.
Only place I havn't is at CET with about 60K in points (600.00), as we seldom go there and I keep meaning to use them on their expensive meals...which I never seem to get around to.
If I lost the Gold Card at Sams we would probably switch over to Orleans. Big plus at Sams is the steakhouse, which we think is the best we've ever been to...but only when its free. Their buffet really sucks. Orleans has alot more FP DDB machines than Sams and we like their cafe and buffet.

And furthermore, I'm at least pretty sure (if not very sure) that offers can be based on several factors including what time of year it is (what holidays or special events, offers and promotions may be happening at that casino or possibly even in the region), as well as the occupancy rate that is being experienced plus weather which can keep some people away from coming.
