The smaller hotels and also the Coast

I have never been or stayed at any of the Coast hotels. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me about them. Are they a friendly hotel? Are they cheap? Clean? Buffet good and is it cheap?
I just want someone to tell me about these hotels. We are always talking about the larger strip hotels but I never hear anything about the smaller hotels. Lets chat about the more obsure hotels. Ok Anyone have a story to tell? Thanks again for all the information on this website that is produced. It is such a great help
Check out the "Palms, Boyd, Stations" category - the Coast properties all belong to Boyd Gaming - there are several threads that you might find interesting.

We love staying at the Orleans and at SunCoast. I love the variety of gaming at both places and the rooms (although dated) are nice and large. Comps or reduced rates are fairly easy to get and their slot club is good too.

I.M.H.O. If you value "good values" i.e Full pay Video poker, Slots that pay at a higher rate than the strip slots, under $5.00 meal specials, buffets under $15 that offer the same stuff as higher priced strip buffets, $5.00 and $10.00 table games, a clean room for half of what you would for strip hotel....then the off strip "smaller"/coast hotels will be to your liking!!!
Personally,my favorite is Sam's Town.If your looking for Wynn/Belagio fancy, you won'tfind it at the Coast properties. But like Champ said,if all your looking for is a clean, decent room, the Coast properties will definetly fill the bill. They all have good restaurants and most have shuttles between properties.

Echo what Champ says. Additionally, the full pay vp is often at the lower levels below $1. Much more bang for your, umm, below a buck.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Gold Coast in Feb 2012. I was lucky enough to snag a suite on the top floor, but I did get a chance to see the styles of rooms ( I was also there to look at a potential venue to hold a conference). As long as you don't go in there thinking you are at the Venetian, you will be pleasantly surprised. I found the Gold Coast to be a very nice property which offered great value. I even went with a bunch of picky eaters and they enjoyed the lunch buffet. I was given a tip from this forum to try out Ping Pang Pong, the Chinese restaurant in the Gold Coast, and the food was simply remarkable.

The staff really care for their customers and it shows. Because I had the chance to "investigate" all the rooms, I found out that in about 6-8 months the entire inventory of hotel rooms will have been renovated. There will 3 classes of rooms available:

(Basic) - which right now is called the "premium" room
(Premium) - which will be very similar to the existing "premium" room but with some added cosmetic changes.
(Suite) - top floor (10th)

I don't think you would be disappointed at the Gold Coast.
I also was surprised by the Gold Coast. It was a very clean property. The staff very helpful and the buffet very good, and I normally stay at Bellagio. Its no Bellagio but for the money its great.
I've been to all of the Coast casinos and have to throw my vote to The Orleans. This is by far our favorite hotel/casino in Vegas. Even if we get comped room else where (CET) we will still go to The Orleans to gamble and dine. In my opinion has the best selection of affordable dining.
Orleans Dining

The weekend Champagne lunch and brunches are a GREAT value.
French Market Buffet

They have great grave-yard specials that we always take advantage of at The Couryard Cafe.
Courtyard Cafe

Also, you get a 40% discount on dining when using your points.

As someone mentioned great video poker and gambling. Rooms are nice. I've never been disappointed in the 6 years we've been going.

Gotta admit that the 40% dining discount using points is pretty darn good! I've used point multiplier days to rack up a lot of points and being able to use them at the assortment of very good restaurants (Billy Bob's, Big Al's, Ping Pang Pong, etc.) really makes Boyd a great play!

Looking forward to a 4 night stay at the GC 8/6 - 8/10. I always enjoy visits to the Gold Coast but have never stayed there. $12 room promo sure doesn't hurt either. Thanks for all the info on the property
