Yep gotten used to getting nothing in the mail. Last trip in march of this year they did comp a couple nights for me for a regular room. I was happy about that. It would be nicer if I could count on it ahead of time. Would probably play more too

Don, you're obviously a local...I've complained in the past that South Point sends nothing, nothing, nothing to out-of-towners, especially those who win. But how do they treat locals? Do you get decent offers? You must put in ar least $20K a month, each of you. (Oh, and do you play on the same card, or separately?)
Also, I've tried to get a straight answer when I've asked hosts about how much coin-in it would take to get a room comp, and they've been maddeningly vague. One said forthrightly than it would take $5K daily, but another said "about $8K," while a third said, "Check with us when you're leaving, and we'll see." I quite frankly would be thrilled to get one of their very nice rooms for $5K in play--after all, than would only be about -$12 in EV--but I can't get a definitive answer most of the time. And I don't want to show up and dump in $40K or something like that over a week's time and then be told that my room "can't" be comped. That's happened before, and there's nothing that puts a sour taste in your mouth more than having a losing trip and then being told that you're not getting a room comp after all (minus an additional $600, suck it up, buttercup).
Do you have any experience or anecdotal knowledge of this?
Yes I am a local and now retired. So I can and do play VP almost every day.
We concentrate on playing on my wife's card. Her monthly mailer is very good. Weekly free play and generous food offers. And she gets salon and spa treatments comped by her host. Monthly coin-in on her card averages over $80K. My card averages a little less but my mailer is negatively impacted by W2G's.
I don't understand South Point's handling of out-of-towners re room comps. I would want them in my casino, especially South Point. It has every amenity one could want - good variety of restaurants, movies, bowling, good VP, 3/2 BJ on all tables. Once I get them in, why would they leave?
There are some out-of-town VP players that I know who have a local mailing address with stores (like UPS) just to get the better mailers. I'm guessing that South Point is not the only casino they use this for as it may not be cost effective for just one casino.

Yeah, at times when I was a frequent Vegas visitor rather than a resident, I used the P.O. box trick as well. It was worth it to me, as if I was categorized as a visitor, I'd get multiple room offers that I couldn't all use. I wanted the free play and food offers that locals got.
So I'm guessing that you sometimes play (with your card) at denominations that might trigger a W2-G, but your wife doesn't? And you're saying that you think that they send you lesser goodies than they would if you didn't have those big hits that generate a W2-G? Seems weird--it's your coin-in that should matter, not whether you win or not. But we've all noted that at SP, losers get more goodies than winners.
And yeah, I really, really don't get why SP gives the finger to non-locals. As you say, one could go there and stay multiple days without wanting or needing to leave--they have everything. That's very attractive to visitors, but they seem to not care to market to them. Maybe they think that all the horsey events, bowling tournaments, etc. get enough of that kind of business in the door?? In any event, dumb policy. Just as dumb as their snubbing LVA.
I reside in the great state of Texas and I constantly receive South Point mailers with consistant offers. I have a trip planned for the end of August thru the 7th of September. I have reserved 3 comped nights, both in August and in September at South Point. I also get a resort credit and free play for each month. Why is South Point so good to me, you may ask? I don't abuse my comps, I don't whine and bitch like a spoiled entitled baby. I take the good with the bad. Some trips I lose money, some trips I win money. My goal is to overall "break even" while enjoying a relaxing time. I also treat the employees with respect and I do tip, but moderately. Many employees know me and we treat each other with respect, as it should be. I know all of the hosts and most of the ladies who man the slot club. I have been visiting Vegas for over 35 years and have a good grasp of how it functions. One thing I know for sure, it doesn't do any good to bad mouth any business you wish to frequent. If one does not like how a business is run, you have a choice - accept what they have to offer - or - to take your business elsewhere. My suggestion, if you want offers from any casino, learn what their guidelines are and decide if you can meet those guidelines. If you can't -or won't- you will find that bad mouthing them will not have your desired result.

David, you "whine and bitch" several times a day in the Kitchen Sink, so if your behavior is uncharacteristically civil while you're a guest at South Point, more power to you--but I seriously doubt that they award you comps for not "whining and bitching." I also doubt that you, or anyone else, are comped or not comped based on how you treat their employees.
Furthermore, what you call "bad mouthing" (it's actually one word in English, but never mind) is simply criticism, which anyone is free to express. I very, very much doubt that they scan internet chat rooms and message boards to see who is "badmouthing" them and who isn't, and reward the ones who praise them and penalize the ones who criticize them.
You claim to have a "good grasp on how Vegas functions," but if you think that you get comps because of your personal nobility, you're, well...out to lunch. They, like any other casino, comp based on what they calculate you're worth to them--nothing more, nothing less. I know why you get good offers. You've admitted in the past that you've been unable to learn proper video poker strategy. So if you go ahead and play anyway, you'll lose, the amount depending on just how badly you play.
Furthermore, many players, on these boards and elsewhere, have reported that they get better offers after they have lost. Therefore, if you get consistent good offers, that's probably because you're a consistent loser. We can tell this in the Sink, because you announce all your Vegas trips and then when you return, you're particular voluminous, combative, and nasty. Losing does not appear to agree with you.

Thanks for the uncalled for vindictive bashing. Normally such content is only allowed to be posted in the Sink. Funny how when others comment about you outside of the Sink you make a point to chastise them and instruct them to keep their comments in the Sink. Apparently one set of rules for them, and another set for you.--- Bottom line - I do receive consistant comps from South Point (and other casinos) for the reasons I listed. I made my post in an effort to help educate others as to what I do and have done and also to illuminate what I have and do receive from casinos. As for my comment about being civil and respectful goes, doing so may provide unseen benefits. I recommend that others should give those concepts a try - it can't hurt.

Actually, what David's trying to tell us is that comps, his at least, depend on how nice he is to everybody there. It doesn't work that way. You get comped based on your action. It appears, anecdotally, that you get more and better offers if you lose. That might explain why I haven't gotten much from them over the years--I'm well ahead lifetime there (which is over expectation).
So Jerry, if you want to sneak into threads and pitch childish little insults, go ahead--no one is getting an erection from that except you. But others may want information on South Point's comp policies. And Jerry, you may be acting deliberately stupid when you imply that .25 video poker play shouldn't get me comps. It does and it has, for over three decades. It very well should, when you give a casino $20-40K action every trip. I have $8 million lifetime action at SP.
So aside from all the bickering, I really would like to hear from other players re their recent offers and how those offers did or didn't correlate to their results.
Getting back on topic...we had 4 "spins" so far:
1 - $15
1 - $20
1 - $40
1 - $50
and two scoops of ice cream.

So still right around a $25 value. That's what I've seen as well since they went to one spin.
Kevin better get his rolls of quarters ready and drive down from Oregon.
