South Point Video Poker Now $2 per Point

It's on their slot club rules that video poker now takes $2 instead of $1 to earn a point so points are now worth .15% instead of .3%. https://southpointcasino.com/casino/the-club

It's also mentioned in the rules for the August promo

That really sucks!! This, along with the downgrade of the monthly promotions, will force me to re-evaluate my play there.

I wonder why/who is causing this. The place is always packed. Can't imagine they are not doing well financially.

That destroys the primary reason to play there at all. They have, for years, trumpeted the superiority of their slot club, to the point of posting big signs atop machine banks comparing their club with others. This reminds me of all the "We don't charge for parking!!" ads in Vegas, which were followed by (oopsy, we do now).

Absolutely huge news.  Vegas just keeps giving me reason after reason to stop going there.  I may just listen.

It is hard to fathom that the best run casino in Vegas - that is always busy - would resort to copying one of the very things that is turning off gamblers who frequent and gamble in Vegas.

The rake that the casinos got operating a 9/6 quarter JoB machine in 1986 is no longer profitable 39 years later.

Times change, folks.

Curious why the $1 slots/$2 VP is included in the promo rules.  If I'm reading it right, that has nothing to do with which "winners" will be in a "hot seat" at the time to win $100.  Perhaps an avenue to put out the word about the reduction.

I believe that you could be right. There is no positive reason to make a big announcement when you are going to screw over your gamblers...

Last time out I debated playing some VP at South Point. I have not played there in a very long time.  Given this news and previous comments made about skimpy comps for out of town players, I'm glad I didn't make it over there.

To be fair, the change only involves video poker players, and their slot club at 0.15% return is still three times what Boyd and Stations offer (0.05%). So it looks like they're doing what businesses do often do: raise the prices and hope that the resultant loss of customers doesn't cancel out the increase in revenue.

So I blame the other locals' casinos just as much. South Point created its generous players' club because they were fighting with Stations and Boyd for locals' business. But Stations said, "No deals for anybody!!" and slashed players' club benefits, while Boyd said "No points for you!!" to anyone who plays less than $75000 a quarter. I'm surprised that SP waited as long as they did for this downgrade.

Their scaling back of promos over the last few months is arguably worse. But as we've all noted, they're packed day and night.
