Southpoint mailers?

Just wondering about comp rooms and mailers from Southpoint.  Do they send out monthly or quarterly?  I normally get 3 or 4 nights a month from Boyd, can I expect similar offers if I play the same?  I'm planning on playing there in September in hopes of generating something.

I've belonged to their slot club since the month they opened, and I've only very rarely received mailers from them--including in the months immediately following when I've visited there and played heavily. The good news is that they still do offers--kinda sorta. On multiple occasions, I've been surprised to find out I had free play on my account (to the point where I always check if I haven't been there in a while--you can always access it directly from any machine). I also get free rooms from time to time, but I have to specifically ask for them. Weird, I know.

Just FYI, the action I give them has been almost 100% .25 and .50 denom VP, and I average about $8000 coin-in a day. My results have been pretty much in line with expectation--breakeven. For that action, I've been able to get a couple of nights comped upfront and usually the remaining nights comped upon checkout.

However, on my latest trip, they seem to have tightened the sphincter. I got only one night comped upfront and one night later, with the third night casino rate. Pretty good, but still a lot worse than 4-5 free nights. No doubt, this reflects high demand right now--everything's tightening WAY up, and SP appears to be no exception.

Based on my recent experiences, I would recommend that you get a slot host before you visit. You won't receive jack diddly upfront, but you can call them the day you check out and ask for---well, I recommend you aim high. Try to get the whole shebang comped. Who knows--it might work.

As for receiving mailers in the future--don't count on it. I think the 3-4 free nights you've gotten in the past from Boyd might be difficult to achieve at SP in September--but for that matter, they might be difficult to achieve from Boyd, or anywhere else. It'll be the end of summer and the start of football season. I don't think they'll be inclined to give much away.

The good news is that the VP is good and the slot club is the best in town (by a factor of 3x). Most of the time, there's an excellent month-long promo in play as well. The rooms are nice and the dining is great. And in September, you won't have to deal with the horsey crowd (yee-haw!).

South Point mailers are very good for locals and not so good for visitors.

But the locals mailer will decrease considerably if one hits some taxables.

Yeah, I've heard that. Strange that they seem to not give a crap about out-of-state visitors, while at the same time hosting all those big horsey, bowling, etc. events and tournaments. Maybe they figure they don't need to do anything more to lure those people in?

Avoiding W2-Gs is a very good reason to stick to .25 VP. But I would imagine that if you hit a few royals, you'll be filed under "undesirable." In fact, come to think of it, that's exactly what happened to me about fifteen years ago, when I was a local. I had a pretty terrible run of luck and got generous mailers. Then I hit two $1,000 royals in one week and the mailers went away (they didn't get worse; they ceased altogether).

We have primarily been "Boulder Strip" type out-of-state visitors, playing primarily at Sam's Town and Boulder Station.  Boulder Station's offer have been BS of late, while ST's have remained OK.  We have visited Southpoint this past spring and again this summer and given them our standard 3-4 hours a day of .25 video poker.  No mailers have been forthcoming, although I've been naively hopeful.  Which casino host at Southpoint would be the best to contact for some perks (especially reduced or comped room offers) for a player at the modest level described above?  Thanks.

Southpoint hosts - Jamie and/or Roxanne. Ask and they will check your card number and tell you what you want to know.

I've stayed and played at SP for many years, probably 3 times per year. I'm not a big player, but I did have a host who, after many years, left. During her employment, she always took care of my room and a small amount of food. But...I NEVER received a mail offer which I thought was strange. She left about a year and a half ago. Since then, I've dealt with Jamie, Roxanne and Pam in the host office. And, starting about a year ago, I began receiving quarterly offers. Mine have been for 2 free weeknights for each month and a small amount of free play. Others have gotten that plus a small amount of resort credit. Frre nights do not have a resort fee, discounted rooms do.

As Kevin says, SP is one of the last of the gambler-friendly hotel/casinos left in Vegas, probably because it's still owned by Mr Gaughan, whose father was a pioneer of Vegas properties in the 20th century.

I love the place....pool, workout room, and buffet are all great.

Just got back and it was a great trip.  Gave them a lot of play but came out ahead including a $2000 W2G.  We only stayed 1 night but I stopped to see a host and talked to Roxanne.  She comped our room and the 2 meals we ate at the buffet.  She thought that I would get offers in the mail so will shall see.  As long as they comp my room, I'm ok with that.  Might go back in November so it will be intesting to see what they do.

#1 comp is the room + RF + taxes! I can pay for food, easily. Another good one is to charge the food to the room. Your host CAN comp those charges. SP is the go-to place for me!

Good for you to come out ahead, Susan. It's a very nice feeling.

I would say 3-4 hours of video poker won't do it at quarter level.  Maybe for a night.  I get anywhere from 2-4 nights comped with a little food and free play $.  I also get quarterly mailers.  But I typcially put about $20-$40K through the machines each trip.  Even though I do that, I probably spend 60% of my time in the poker room.  You can get casino rate at $69 a night playing 4 hours of poker but with $14 resort fee and and tax it is close to $95.

But that said, Southpoint is the best in town.
