Does anyone have a recommendation for which rooms to ask for at the Southpoint? I have a premium king reserved and was wondering if there is a floor or section that is preferable.

You can be pretty far from the elevators, so ask to be closer if you don't want a long walk. However, it's noisier near the elevators.
I prefer to be lower rather than higher, due to elevator wait times. But since there are two separate elevator banks, one for (I think) floors 1-10 and the other for higher floors, my play would be to be on the lowest level of the higher section (so, 11th floor as above).
As far as the individual rooms are concerned, they're all very nice. They're roomy and the bathrooms are great. Don't worry about which side of the hotel you're on-- there's not much of a view east or west.
Lastly, if there's some big horsie event, bowling tournament, etc. going on at the time of your stay, ask where the participants are staying (usually, blocks of rooms are set aside for that purpose), and if you can, arrange to be as far away from them as possible, other considerations notwithstanding.
You'll enjoy the South Point. It's one of the very few places left in Vegas where the gambling is still decent, and the food is excellent.
When I stay at the South Point, I ask for the highest floor available, and for a room the farthest away from the elevators and a strip view. The view is not great, but I like viewing the airplanes coming and going and I like the view of the strip at night. I prefer the high floor because I find that these rooms have less usage than the rooms on the lower floors. The elevators are the fastest I know of - the ride is very quick. I also get a room with two beds - one bed is always more comfortable than the other - with a room with one bed I feel one is taking their chances and may get a well worn, uncomfortable bed to sleep on. Every room has a refrigerator, a safe and Keurig coffee maker. They also provide 2 pair of South Point branded slippers, which you can keep (at no charge). South Point also has an excellent workout area with Cybex exercise machines.
Thanks for the info. Just got back and the room was very nice. The elevators go from 1 - 12 and 14 - top so next time I would request a room on 14. Makes for great elevators rides. My husband liked the strip view for the airplanes also. The pool area was great. Best of all, the VP is great and so was the buffet. We will stay there again.
Something malfuncioned at the South Point Hotel in Southern Las Vegas. Staff refused to fix this issue. Payout for this hand was about 71 credits short.
