Stations offering $1.99 margaritas at all casino bars

My secret sources alerted me to this one.

Its just a 7-Eleven slushie with cheap Jose Cuervo.    But still - 2 bucks.

How long till the Station Buffets come back  ?   =)

They have a long, long, long way to go before they return to being a bargain joint.

I have kind of wondered why they haven't brought back any of their buffets, even at inflated prices. God knows, there's still a market.

Jose Cuervo is a mixta tequila, 51% agave.  Expensive Don Julio is being sued for being a mixta while advertising 100% agave along with their numerous additives for flavor.  I'm guessing the Cuervo might be higher quality at this point.  I'll stick to the clean and additive free Lalo, Tequila Ocho, and all the good stuff from the Camerena brothers under 5-6 brands.

Once it goes into the slushie, it doesn't matter what kind of tequila it is.

Two bucks is the point here.

Because Stations' buffets didn't produce enough revenue to justify their expense.

Do you recall who stood in those lines at Stations' buffets? Those were not big gamblers. Far too many were families trying to stretch their budgets (god bless).

It's not like the buffets are still there. Those spaces have all been gutted and repurposed.

Most things that happen in Vegas are correctly explained by money.

Naah. If they charged enough to truly cover their costs, they'd still attract customers AND make money. What happened with Stations is that they decided to not just not cater to the locals/bargain hunters, but to actively, deliberately, and comprehensibly antagonize them.

The proof is that South Point took the exact opposite tack. At a time when Stations and Boyd were putting the torch to their buffets, SP expanded theirs (and so did Palms). Both places are mobbed. There's a market out there, all right. Boyd and Stations just said, "We don't want you."

That mindset aside, Stations was so successful precisely BECAUSE they attracted the dollar-stretchers. Some people parked, brought their families in to eat at the buffets, and promptly left. But many, many, many others didn't make it back out until Mommy dropped a hundy in the Sucker Slot. Or Fred drops by for a quick, inexpensive meal...and on the way out, he passes the craps table. Fred is dead. It turned out to be a $300 buffet.

The "old school" realized this simple, basic fact about casinos: not every department has to make money. The present-day bean counters don't get that--they're still trying to figure out some way to make the bathrooms revenue-positive.

I will once again refer to my favorite joint, Emerald Island, which all but gives away its excellent food and is always, always full o'people. The food in casinos should be a loss leader. That's what works.

I think it would be cool if they just brought back one or two of them.    Red Rock, GVR...maybe Palace.   They can be a little bit higher end - like The Palms.    Stations players at any of their resorts could spend points there.     No reason for every casino to have a buffet like before.

When I lived in Vegas in the 90s, we'd go to the Station buffets pretty regularly with our comp offers.  Yes, it was with my wife, a 4-year-old, and a 1-year-old. I don't think they were in danger of going bankrupt because of us, though! :)

Haha, true.  But I'd rather have a drink with a quality booze versus fermented garbage!
