Sunset or Aliante Station?

Thanks everyone for the input. It's especially good to hear from Station Casino's #1 Team Member.

The distance to Aliante is no problem. We regularly drive out to Santa Fe Station, Red Rock and Suncoast from Sam's Town. Also Cafe Bleu at Cordon Bleu cooking school is regularly on our itinerary.

I can certainly live with the range of full pay VP games available.

The real clincher is the pool, at Aliante. It looks great on the view from Google earth.

Sue, I will stop by the booth while we're there and hope to meet you.

Sounds good!
Above posts have covered the gambling well and as Sue said, Aliante is no further from town than Sunset. I'll hit on the pool section. I always mean to spend some time at the pool, but rarely get around to it. Sue mentioned how nice Aliante's pool area is and Sunset's is large, but but exactly beautiful. Both PS and BS offer postage stamps for pools with no amenities, unless you consider towels at a pool an amenities.

Good Luck!

"but but exactly beautiful"

Ric, I assume you meant to say "but NOT exactly beautiful?" LOL

Aliante's pool looks very much like Red Rock's -- just not quite as large an area. The decor/furniture is orange, while RR's is red.

Google Maps has Sunset Station an 18 minute, 12.5 mile drive away from downtown's Four Queens using US95.

Google Maps has Aliante Station a 28 minute drive away from the Four Queens, no matter which of the three routes Google plots is used (10.7 mi along Simmons, 11.7 mi down Decatur and Rancho, or 19.2 miles along the beltway and US95).

From a driving-time perspective, Aliante is more than 50 percent more distant from downtown than Sunset Station is. I consider that significant.

Another advantage Sunset has over Aliante is quick public transit to and from downtown. $2, 20 minutes, hourly, 7 days a week.
Google Maps is wrong. It never takes me more than 25 minutes at the most to get to downtown from Aliante, using the beltway and I-15 (not I-95). And, back when the 15 was tied up by construction, I used to take the Decatur/Rancho route. It took exactly the same amount of time as using the highways does now, because of all the stoplights on Decatur and Rancho. I don't know if it's really 19 miles using the freeway, but keep in mind that traffic on I-15 moves steadily at 70-75 mph, so it's a fast ride. The only time you're on I-95 is for about a block or 2 (you go from I-15 to I-95 south, then exit immediately onto Casino Center Dr. Go a couple of blocks straight ahead and you're at Four Queens.)

Google Maps does not live here. You do not live here. Do not speak of things you don't know for yourself.

BTW, since Aliante is right off the beltway, you can take it in the other direction and be at Red Rock in 25 minutes. Try to get there from downtown in that amount of time, LOL. You can't. There is no direct route that doesn't involve surface streets with lots of stoplights.

A few minutes extra driving time is NOT significant when you factor in that you're staying at a much nicer property.

And your comment about public transportation is irrelevant, since the original poster will have a car. There is, however, a bus on Simmons (the 119) that stops at Aliante Station. I believe it can be taken all the way from downtown.
I guess the guys at Google now snooze on piles of money by virtue of being wrong.

Somehow I think they're not sweating this.
Their times are ESTIMATES. Mine are based on 5 years of experience. I even worked at Four Queens for a time, so I ought to know how long it takes to drive there. (I live one mile north of Aliante Station, BTW.)

I'm betting you've never even been to Aliante, so you have no basis on which to speak -- although that has never stopped you before.

Anyway, your comments were not needed, since the original poster has already chosen to stay at Aliante for part of his trip, based mostly on the property and its amenities. He said the location was not an issue to him.

Alright, I accept that Google and I won't be able to persuade you that the 17.7 mile route you take to go from downtown to Aliante Station is in truth "further" than the 12.1 mile drive to Sunset Station.

Not all things are possible.
Even though Chilcoot's attempt to be helpful may be in error, I would prefer to go with Sue's input on this topic. I have personally found Google Maps to often be in error while I have never heard anyone complaining that Sue's information about Vegas was wrong. If Chilcoot wants to get the facts he could get in a car and check out the routes and distances - something that I am sure Sue has done many times.
