Up to Date Details on GVR

After spending the day researching, my wife and I are leaning toward GVR for our trip in late Feb.

We platy VP at the .25 level and poker. I just read a very flattering review of the poker room there by an independent source I am familiar with. Poker is a big deal for us since we both work in a large busy poker room in Oklahoma. (yes, there are casinos in Oklahoma if you weren't aware. at least 70 from very small to the 3rd largest in the world where we work)

I've looked over the website and wondered if anyone could fill in some blanks for me.

1. East Tower or West Tower or does it matter? We'd like a nice view.

2. There are several packages offered, one for he spa which looks good since that is my wife's bliss. If I read it right, we cannot put two of those together for a 4 night stay and use to packages, is that correct or could a host work that out?

3.What would $15k in coin in over 4 days do for us or is that too little?

4. It looks like shuttle service to and from the airport and to Mandalay Bay and the Strip is available free, is it reliable?

5. Does the $20 trick work there? (just for the heck of it)

Thanks to everyone who answered my last post and steered me toward better choices.
The only one I can attempt to answer is #3, lol. If you're just talking about slot/VP play, $15,000 coin-in over 4 days for 2 people is very little. (I'm assuming you mean $15,000 total -- not $15,000 per day.)

However, with your poker play combined with that, you may get good results, depending on how much you play. You do earn points by playing poker (combined into the same points you earn on slots -- bingo and sports bets are also combined into that same "pot"), but I don't know how many. Maybe somebody else knows that. And a host could certainly help when it comes to evaluating your play after the fact.

FWIW, 7 years ago, less coin in than that comped our entire 4 day stay at MSS including at least 7 buffet passes x2 people... of course it's a different world and different casino etc, etc. I was guessing it would be a tiny amount now.

From what I have read, poker will get you $1 per hour on your players card good anywhere in GVR for food and the gift shop.
Howard, 7 years ago my husband and I used to stay at MSS regularly. We did (combined) about $15,000 coin-in per day. This got us a gold card and comped everything.

I'm still not clear on whether you mean $15,000 per day, or $15,000 for the entire 4 days total. If the latter, that's less than $4,000 per day, which at that time would have gotten a room, but not RFB.

We enjoy playing VP but do not play at the level needed to finance a trip. VP in Oklahoma is dismal.

Probably we'll play for the entertainment value and the chance at a big score, it could happen.

Would calling the front desk be the best option to get info on the special packages or is there someone else who would know more about that?
East and West Tower are decorated differently but otherwise the same except...West Tower rooms have a nice vanity area with mirror, nice to get ready there instead of the East Tower which has a desk. In order to get a view (of the pool, that is really the only view choice) you have to get a "superior" room. Never tried the $20 trick. Used the shuttle service once from the airport, it's nice but I believe they have a schedule. Perhaps you should call and ask about that. Have been in the spa but only to use the workout facilities and the spa pool area, but it's a very nice facility so I'm sure the spa is also nice. GVR is our favorite hotel/casino, when we go to Vegas we always try to stay there. It has a very comfortable vibe.
Oh and one more thing....probably both of you should play on one card the entire stay, and then on the morning of check-out, just call down to the front desk and ask them to check and see if your play has earned you any reduction in your hotel rate. They will check for you and call you back to let you know, so you don't have to worry about tracking down a host. It takes a lot though, to get anything at all these days from Stations, not like it used to be in the old days. But it never hurts to try. You can also use the points you earn on your card, to pay toward your hotel bill, so you might want to check on that, too.

One thing: Beware of erroneous mini bar charges. Stations are notorious for that.

Also: You are aware that they charge a resort fee with any paid stay, right? Over $25/night. If it is a comp,

the fee should be waived.

Paging Ramper....................Ramper...............you're wanted for GVR advice on Line 1...............
We stayed at GVR for 3 nights this Christmas.
A host stopped by and after talking for a while,we asked how our play looked
at that point.
We were in day 2 and had put on 36,000 tier points. It was early in the
day so we were not done playing. She said we had NOT covered the cost of the
room yet. This was a standard room. So how much does it take per day to cover the room?
Seems like they require a lot from VP players.
