Give it a go, QM. It really is a lot of fun. It is so much easier now to get fitted beyond the bored, surf-loving teenager working at AllSportsMart. OEMs show up at demo days with varying arrays of fitting tech. Indoor fittings at reputable shops using a launch monitor can get you there. If by chance you live in So Cal the Roger Dunn off the 55 has OEM guys right in the store! So Cal also is home to many of the OEMs, so you can go right to the source, or to their satellite facilities scattered about North America. If you are in Phoenix, PING takes drop ins, which is cool. And then there are the HotStix and the like of the world. And what's really cool is if you can get a fitting from a PGA guy or gal who also is fit-certified by various OEMs. Then there is the fitness aspect.
Fitting is NOT a panacea, which is something my usual golf bud (20+ years and counting) and I discussed over an up/down round at Maderas on Saturday. We both fell that over the years our ball-striking has improved, even as lax attention to short game and consistent (any) practice conspire against scoring. And we're both fitting fans. Again, not an instant fix, however.
