Golf course reviews

I was in vegas a couple weeks ago for a little R&R and golf.
Just thought I’d give a little trip report of the courses I played.
4/24/12
Boulder Creek, Coyote run/Eldorado 4/5 stars
Courses was in very good condition.
The greens on Eldorado were in very good shape.
But odd for Vegas, the green while true were very slow.
Service on the course and in the club house was very good.
No city special going on this year so pace of play was good, about 4:15.
We did book on ezlinks.com for $35, very good price.
This year like last year, was the first time I picked up my clubs this year.
So my first 9 was a little directionaly challenged, but I settled down nicely.
Opened with a rough 53, came in with a nice 43.
I was very happy with this as the opening day to my season.
4/25/12
Revere, Concord 4/5 stars
Booked on ezlinks.com for $45, a good price for a tourist.
Course was in good shape, weather conditions were terrible, 15-20 mph winds and a 90% chance of rain.
It worked out well though, even though my playing partners bailed on me, I ended up paired with nice guy.
Another course with smooth, true but slow greens.
Because of the bad condition out, we played the round in 3:15, and never rushed.
Even with wind I managed to shoot a nice 90.
Chipping was an adventure, playing the wind that was strong enough to make just standing still a chore.
Even with the wind I only misses 2 fairways.
Everyone on the course and in the clubhouse was very nice, even offered to let me switch days if I didn’t want to play in the nasty wind.
4/30/12
Primm Valley, Lakes course 4.5/5
Course was in excellent shape, finally had some quicker greens.
A light breeze and clear skies made for a great day of golf.
From the clubhouse to the course everyone was very nice.
I will say if you missed the fairways you could find some nasty rough or desert.
We got a rack rate of $42 on golfnow.com, another good price for a visitor.
Another day of golf in about 4 hrs.
Shot a 89, best round of the year to date, though only a couple rounds in, very happy with that.
I can see why people love these courses, very challenging but fair.
Next year I will play both courses, I really want to see if the Desert course is as much fun as the Lakes.
5/1/12
Conestoga 4.5/5
Booked on exlinks.com for $30, I think you can see a pattern as to how I plan my golf on vacations.
Another course in great shape and quick greens.
I really like this course also, it’s like Wolf Creek lite, not quite as extreme but I think a great desert course.
Another course with a great staff, that what’s so nice about golfing in Vegas, they know customer service.
Had a decent day on the links, shot a 90 with some terrible putting, and finished in about 4hrs.
It is a course that is nice to play with some who has played it before or have a good GPS unit.
There are lots of carries or layups where course knowledge is needed.
A very fun course going thru the canyons and passes.

If anyone has any questions, please let me know, didn’t want to bore anyone to much.
Hope you enjoyed the read.

First, I'll say that all your pricing is great. I'm headiong down sometime this summer during the low season, so I figure they'll probably pay me to play!

Boulder Creek is always a great play. I also like the laid back feeling of the place. Great clubhouse.

Concord always gets second billing to the Lexington, but it's still great to play. Views from the clubhouse are amazing. One of these days I'll take my friends up there for dinner. I'm sure the food won't comepete with the all-stars on the strip, but you can't beat the view.

You can't say enough about Primm Valley. The Lakes course is my favorite and service from the minute you drive up until you leave is nonstop.

Never played the Conestoga, so no comment.

All in all, it sounds like a great vaca/golf trip. I'm jealous!

Good Luck!

Yep, can't say enough about Primm. And Conestoga is a stunner. Been up there three times now and my only wish is that they'd reverse the nines. What a phenomenal track. Take away the nut-squeezing awe factor of Wolf and Conestoga becomes the play up there, with best-play Coyote Springs done in transit. Not a fan of Concord. Courses are judged in context so by definition some have to slide down the scale.

Thanks for the post jaz.
I've been wanting to play Conestoga since it opened. Last July I called from St. George to say I'd be down in an hour and was told "Our last tee time is 2:00, you won't make it." OK then. I'll probably try to get up there when I visit again this summer.

Love Boulder Creek & Primm Valley. As a golf course, Concord is just OK at best. And last time I played there (2010 I think?) the conditioning was less than great. Almost looked like they were letting some of it go back to seed. There are some nice views on that course though, I'm thinking particularly around holes 11 - 13 or so. I do kind of like the closing hole - I know Ken has said he doesn't care for it.

ric, i had lunch at revere after the round and it was as good as everything i had on the strip.
soup and sandwich was around $8.
same with boulder creek, had a great wrap at the turn, also reasonably priced.

ken, next trip coyote springs is on the wish list. i would also like to get up to st george next trip.
Good call on the lunch, jaz. As people drone on here about some place new to have lunch, and then they return to the same chain shit every time, I repeatedly say to get out and try Buckman's, both for the food and the view.

St. Geo is worth a go, and not just for the golf. And it beats hell out of staying in Mistake, NV. Do Coyote Springs or Conestoga or Wolf one the way up, play another on the way back.
jaz, thanks for the heads up. The only food I've had there is a bagel before a round, so that's good to hear. It's officially on the LV bucket list.

Good Luck!

Thanks for all the great info...this is a very useful post for other readers. I think most users get the best info from hearing reviews from others like themselves that have had personal experiences at these courses. Anyone can go to the courses site and read about how wonderful the course is but to hear it from a customer is another story. Thanks again for your post!
