Golf courses for beginners

Hi,

I have already bought the e-book "Golf Las Vegas" which is very informative for preparation of our trip. Thanks Ken !

My wife and I will be in Vegas for a week December 8 to 15. We are both beginners in playing golf but love the game. Our handicap range would be something around 36, started playing last year only.

We had a lot of pro lessons already, know quite well about the rules and have a good understanding how to play quite fast even though we need more strokes than better players do. Here in Switzerland golf courses are very well booked, often a flight of 4 every 10 minutes. So much for the basics

We would love to play some courses not too hard for a beginner, major aspects are fun, landscape, views etc.

Doesnt matter who designed the course, who else plays there usually and so on.

We have a rental car, so location is not a big thing, also the price doesnt really matter.

Any nice ideas ?

Greetings from Switzerland

Holger
Glad the book's been helpful, Holger. I suggest Durango Hills (the executive course north of Summerlin), Boulder City (municipal course about 30 miles southeast of Vegas on the way to Hoover Dam) and Angel Park's Mountain Course (good full-length play with not too many forced carries and minimal hazards, and awesome views). And none of those will remotely break the bank.
I agree on Boulder City Muni - it is a fun yet realtively easy course.

Another you might try is the Par 3 Caloway course right on the strip near the airport.

Golfing in Vegas is a blast ----- but it is not nearly as beautiful as Switzerland!
Thanks ! I will have a look in the book and put them on my list. For the moment it looks like the weather will be fine to golf. I have been to Vegas several times in December/January and most times it was quite OK.

Golf in Switzerland is really nice, especially when you can afford the "high end " courses. But they are not as expensive as over there in Vegas :-)

This seems to be a quiet time of the year, concerning golf at least...

I am back with some info and a new question.

For the info part: We played the Callaway course at the airport to "warm up" and it was fine. Very different from everything I have seen before, but worth playing it to warm up.
Driving range was OK and walking around the 9 holes as well.
Interesting to watch the coming and going planes.

As we wanted to go to the outlet stores in Primm and there was a good special on golfnow we played the Primm Lakes course then. That was really nice, although the two local guys we played with were not very friendly. But OK, we are beginners and from far away, why should they like us :-) ?

Now for my new question:
I will be in Vegas end of march with my brother this time and think about playing another round of golf. Will hire clubs if I do, as for 1 round its not worth taking my own from Switzerland.
My brother does not play golf but might want to join me for seeing a golf course, as he never saw one :-)
Will it be allowed for him to join me on the cart ? Will they charge me for that, and if yes, how much probably ?
most courses will not allow riders, without paying or without a set of clubs. you should check with the course you want to play ahead of time.
a lot of the nicer courses in vegas will let riders or non-players out for a cart fee.
You can't go wrong with Boulder Muni. I would also like to add that Callaway also has night golf.
how about the north las vegas golf course? i know it is a par 3, but is it a good course to play? condition?
