The Players ... Sawgrass' 17th

The Players is this week so that means time for the annual chatter about #17.

Is it silly or sublime? An asset to a "major" event or a detriment?
All of the above and great fun to watch!
As Smokey once said, "I second that emotion!" Is it fair or unfair? I don't know. A sudden gust of wind can turn a good shot into a loser, but can't that be said about a lot of holes on tour? Some say it's not a bad hole, it just shouldn't be #17. On the other hand, it's made for some interesting finishes. It's also one of the few holes on tour that immediately connect you with that course. All I know is that it makes for some great Sunday afternoon viewing.

So Kooch becomes the first winner to survive a dunking.

Couldn't find a nicer guy to win. Watching Kevin Na was more painfull than watching Barkley! About a year after I started playing I had trouble pulling the trigger on the tee, but nothing like that. I do understand it a bit though. During the period when I bowled 25-30 tornaments a year, I decided to change from five steps to four. Timing is easier and timing corrections are easier, so I thought it would help. I spent two practce sessions working on this and never got my right foot to move without the left moving at least an inch first. I didn't understand it and it frustrated the hell out of me. To this day I use five steps (but the left foot only moves a few inches).

BTW, don't forget it's a process and Foley's two years aren't up yet!

Good Luck!

I think everyone is wise to the Emperor's clothes. lol When fellow pros and former teachers call bullshit, it's bullshit.

Funny thing about Na, he had the stutters far worse on Saturday, and he was striping it. But he didn't have the putter stutters on Saturday.
I agree. I don't think Na's "shot trigger" had anything to do with his scoring on Sunday. He faced pressure he normally doesn't.

As to Tiger, I think Peter Allis gave the best analysis. Standing on the practice range at Bayhill with Arnie, they watched Foley telling Tiger how to chip. He basically asked AP why Foley was trying to show one of the game's best short game players how to chip. Ken's right about the emperor's clothes. Tiger''s mystique and domination are gone and they ain't coming back. I just wish he would start playing golf again instead of technique. Never been a big fan of him, but I loved watching him play.

Good Luck!
