Vegas pools reported to have "High Levels of Urine".

I very seldom read the "todays news" in the LVA. But I couldn't help but read under "pool hygiene in question-as reported on FOX5 news" that 5 popular hotels... Aria, Mgm, Venetian, Palms and Hard Rock had 1 of their party pools "tested positive for high levels of urine and, in 1 instance, bacteria that causes urinary tract infection".

In all my years of Vegas travel I must admit that I have never really given much thought to what is in the water at the pools that I might frequent ( and since I can't swim worth a lick, the pools arent high on my list). But yeesh this does make 1 wonder what you are swimming in and worse yet when you do get that accidental mouthful of water, when you take the plunge, or just get splashed by a friend...is that mouthful 1% urine? 2 % urine??? 10% urine??????

I am curious as to what rates as a "high level"? And lastly if you knew what the levels were (maybe posted at the pools like the water temps) would that stop you from swimming there?

In 3 weeks I'll be at GVR and Red Rock. 2 pools that I do plan on, at the very least, walking around. This report makes you wonder (although neither of them were cited) what in their pool(s)

Don't think that I have ever read about pools being tested let alone see a report like this (bacteria that causes urinary tract infection..."). Maybe Westie, or some of those who are able to find the restaurant reports, can enlighten us on what pools are clean!

Until then keep your mouth closed while swimming! And take shower before....AND after swiming.

T-23 days and counting!!!
OK...so urine is a sterile mixture...so who cares? and is this really surprising?
OK Nymph11, now we know who did it.
People survive on drinking their urine..
Hotels clorinate.
Your body builds immunities to ward off stuff- take a vitamin. your body is a wonderful thing.
block it out of your mind like you do to the sticky buttons on the VP machines and door handles: (Howie Mandel excluded)

I've asked this question for years..................there's Pools in Vegas?
This story has all the hallmarks of irresponsible journalism.

LVA didn't do any reporting here. Instead, it cites to a story at Fox5, a local Vegas TV station.

Fox5 also didn't do any reporting. Instead, it cites to a story published by something called The Daily.

The Daily didn't cite to any public health reports. Instead, it hired two labs and tested a number of pools. Those labs found evidence of urine.

How is that news? Are there people walking this earth who haven't long realized that weirdos still pee in public pools? Seriously, it's like reporting that hot dogs have a little lip and anus in them.

According to the story in The Daily, none of the pools violated the standards of the Southern Nevada Water Authority. The authority recommends pools not exceed a "total dissolved solids" level of 1,500 parts per million. They all passed!

It looks to me like The Daily decided to make a story that Vegas' pools are very dirty, hired two labs to test the water, found out that the water met standards, yet went ahead and published a story saying that Vegas' pools are very dirty.

And LVA then reported it as if it was true.
Are you saying that this is a "Piss -Poor" example of responsible Journalism?

More or less. I'm saying the actual facts as reported don't warrant the conclusions everyone seems to have jumped to.

It's a combination of a manufactured story being oversold, readers not reading the actual story, and then letting their cynicism take over.
Its just one of those things where ignorance is bliss. I dont want to know the ingredients of my hot dog, who had sex in my hotel bed, or how many people peed if the pool.
