5 nights at MGM Grand, June 19-23.

Greetings all. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer (and if you reside in the southern hemisphere, I hope your winter is going well).

Just returned from five nights and six full days of work in Las Vegas. The entire gang stayed at the MGM Grand.

Comments & observations:

-Lots on renovations taking place all over the entire MGM property.

-I was put in a Grand Tower King, 22129. My wing of that floor had been open for a few weeks it appeared, perhaps less.

- The new rooms are totally redone and the quality of fit & finish was pretty good. Excellent TV/Entertainment/minibar piece of furniture. Nice 40" LCD.

-Complete new bathroom. Very nice 60"+ back-lite mirror. Pretty nice tile and finish work in the bathroom.

-Very nice and easy to operate automatic window blind system, with sheer and blackout settings.

-No in room safe. Why? I do not know.

-Dreadfully poor quality door. Thin metal, terrible hardware/locking mechanism. Terrible fit on the door- every door on the floor rattled and did not close and stay firmly shut. Would not self close. Very cheap thin door that allowed even casual conversations in the hallway to be easily heard in your room. Huge oversight by MGM.

-Excellent, on the soft side, bed.

-Average to below average housekeeping department, IMO.

A few comments and observations on the MGM as a whole:

-Chaos at the front desk, the massive front desk. Instead of one primary line, that has one MGM employee directing you to the next available agent, the MGM has the "choose which line you think will be the fastest and too bad if you choose wrong" system. Incredibly bad idea. Terrible first introduction to the property. Absolutely has to change.

-Renovations all over the property. Big sections of the casino floor blocked off. The Las Vegas Blvd entrance was all yellow tape, safety cones and tools. Very messy. Very unwelcoming.

-Good choice of restuarants.

-Sigma Derby was up and running in the casino and extremely popular. It's a silly little old horse racing machine where 10 player sit and wager on the horse races. Lots of laughs. Small waggering only.

The TV/Mini bar/entertainment piece.

I almost forgot:

If it is possible for the MGM Grand to supply a cheaper, thinner, less absorbent brand of toilet paper- I want to see it done. I don't think it can be done.

The thin plastic covering I get back on my clothes from the Dry Cleaner is thicker and more absorbent.

Thank you and carry on.
I love Sigma Derby!
Now THIS is a hotel review! Thanks Tommy!

Thanks for your report. We will be staying there in 2 weeks, with all thats going on should we look for a new place to stay.

Thanks,

FREDFRED
Fred x 2, I wouldn't absolutely cancel. All things considered, the hotel offers quite a bit:

Great location

(5) pools to choose from

Lots of excellent dining options

Quick airport access

Lots of live sporting events held there in the Grand Garden

I think perhaps it's just best to anticipate the chaotic check-in policy, or simply go to the "Invited Guest" check-in and ask them to help you. They should. Insist on a high floor renovated room. The "01" & "03" numbered rooms are nice Jr suites that should be easy to score with a nice rerquest.

Wherever you stay, good luck. Have fun.
Tommy you mentioned the "poorly fitting doors that did not self-close".

That is a huge huge fire marshal issue. The building SHOULD NOT pass the inspection if the doors do not self-close properly. Turn em' in to the Nevada Fire Marshal's office.
RWP, I actually called this issue to the attention of a security officer who was walking down my hall. I had him grab my door handle and "test the lock." He suggest to me that "A strip of insulation should fix that." I said it might, and if that is all it takes then why are all the doors able to rattle and move?

The insulation would do nothing however for the thin, incredibly poor quality of all the doors.
A helpful review of the MGM. Thank you!
I'm very AWARE of Doors too Tommy. Thats a good headsup.

If that Sec. guard has any backbone, or wasn't afraid for his job.........he would
notify his superiors of his loose door finding.

I'm also leery of Peep holes. One hotel we stay regularly, has peep holes, if you Look into it from
the Hall? You can see directly into the room! Most don't, but some of the older/larger peep holes,
you can SEE thru from the outside.
Gotten in the habit of take a piece of tissue, and put in the peep hole.
If I need to Look out? I remove the tissue, otherwise its blocked.

And at night, I take a towel, and roll it, so no light from hallway comes in the room.
Alittle extra stoppage at the door too.

Privacy, Safety & quiet. Very necessary.
