City Center and Cosmopolitan

Sorry but I have to say these properties were a big disappointment. These buildings look like Office High Rises from the 60's and 70's. There is no architectural imagination at all. Also I thought Vegas was about Casinos and Gambling? City Center has its Casino stuffed so far back on the property its a 10 minute walk from the street to get to it.

Vegas is about fantasy and these properties just don't get it. I can go to a mall anywhere. As far as I'm concerned These are two over built monstrosities that are an eyesore to the Las Vegas Skyline. They do not fit in with the rest of the Strip.

It would not surprise me if City Center were to become the basis for the financial ruin of MGM.
Totally agree! Talk about sterile.

Yes that is a very good description ugly and sterile.
Overhyped?

Here's a contrary opinion.

I loved the rooms at Aria. I liked the high tech lights, electronics etc. in the room. Loved the valet parking and the feature that allows you to phone for your car so that it's ready when you show up. I liked the ambiance and layout in the casino and really loved the graphics on the new vp machines. Comfortable chairs and nice slant-top machines (except, of course, that there was nothing, absolutely nothing, that was even remotely playable). So we took advantage of the comped rooms, free food and free play and regrettably did not give them any play.

We enjoyed the tapas at Julian Serrano. Did not like the Thai restaurant (Lemongrass?) or the coffee bar but I would go back there in a heartbeat and would give them $40k/day if they gave me comped rooms and food again and offered some 9/6 Job for anything under $5.

Are you listening, Cosmo?
I wish I had taken a picture last week............but as I was riding on the monorail, and
could see The Cosmopolitan sign from the side.............I swear if you were looking
from the Front? the "C" was missing. It said, OSMOPOLITAN.

Can any else "c"onfirm this?
CLV, There a Stiffs and Georges blog on this last week reminding us that the Planet Hollywood sign was missing a few important letters at first.

Like or don't like City Center, architecturally and tastefully it is a quantum leap above the Boardwalk.
I like the look of both properties.
The art at City Center is great, I love the "water wall" by the Aria valet and the boat sculpture is the coolest.

I think the cosmo is going to be a great place. The fact that it's right on the strip, not (currently) connected to any other casinos, and has a large number of rooms with balconies are all very exciting prospects to me. We'll see how the all play out after the opening...
I sincerely hate to be "that guy", but how long does everyone think it will take for the first suicide at Cosmo? Las vegas is the suicide capital of America after all. Many times I wish I could open my window at the various casinos I frequent, but I realize they are locked for a very good reason. The idea of having a terrace with your room is a very good one, especially in a town as glitzy as Vegas, however, I'm pessimistic about the outcome of these terraces.
I stayed at Bellagio a couple months ago and played a lot af craps.
I know some of the dealers pretty well and told them I had been to Aria earlier in the day to check it out.
The entire crew started laughing and said "Good thing you saw it now, they may be out of business in a few months"
Clearly a jaded opinion but the word is out they are bleeding MGM dollars.
