Hotel windows aren't locked because of suicides. Rather, it is because of one of the major plagues in this country - lawsuits.
Same old story - guy gets drunk and starts screwing around on balcony or near open window and accidentally mains himself or falls to his death. Even though it was his fault, hotel gets slapped with lawsuit.
I'd love to be able to open my window or have a deck to enjoy, but the greedy lawyers have ruined that.
