NYNY...sigh....

Disclosure:

4 or 5 trips per year to Vegas

Mlife Platinum ~800,000 points

CET – Diamond

Average ~$15,000/$20,000 coin in per day – mainly VP at $1 and above

Received an offer from NYNY for 3 comped nights in a suite, free play and RFL. I haven’t stayed there in years and really like what they have done to the casino so I thought I would give it a try, despite the negative stuff that I read on here.

I contacted a host and wanted to get up front what was included in RFL. Here is the response:

“this is the offer you have for that time frame:
DS1106A1 (Valid 2/1/2011 - 4/30/2011) 3nts comp Spa/Mar/Play, RFL,
Lounge Check-In, FREEPLAY(r)
At RFB that would be $75 in food/beverage per day and I would evaluate your play for further
comps.”

Cool. Headed out for March Madness with the boys so $75 a day should cover the food.
I put through a total of $66,000 coin in (with $35,000 in one day, exclusively in the hi-limit room) over the 3 days and used $150 total in food (breakfast for 3 of us for 3 days).

Upon check out I called my host who was not in the office, and was told to contact whoever was on duty to check my play. The answer I got was that they could not comp any food, only the room. What?!? Called my host back after she got in and she said she would check my play and call me back. After no call back I sent the above email back to her and asked what was up. Received an email back that they were comping the food. Cool by me, except when I checked my Express Comps they were reduced by the comp amount. In other words, I was comping myself.

Her answer - “comps are comps”.

After a few more emails, the responses stopped and that was that.

Am I wrong here, or did I get the old “bait and switch”? I just feel like these guys scammed me and I fell for it. Funny part is, any other of my MGM hosts would have comped that food without my even asking and not touched my Express Comps.

It’s too bad, because I really liked the casino and the whole ambiance, but I will never, ever, set foot in there again because of what amounts to peanut money. It’s the principle and attitude that gets me. I honestly think my host was just going by some Corporate guidelines because she was very helpful and nice, so I really am not complaining about her.

Why do these casinos shoot themselves in the foot and chase away a potential repeat ~$200,000 coin in per year customer away?

Of course if you all tell me I’m wrong then I’ll eat crow and apologize in advance for wasting your time. If I’m correct then I will post this elsewhere to make sure others are forewarned.
It sounds like you got screwed....

I had a similar experience with NYNY last year (at a much lower level).

It's a shitty place and they lie to get you in the door.

Sorry it happened to you too.
I too have had problems with NYNY in the past. That being said, although my experience with this new system is limited, my impression is that you are expected to use your express points first before further comps are awarded.
I got an offer for a suite, $300 free play, and RFB. The offer actually said RFB, but in the fine print it said it was based on play on current trip. I spoke with a host about it and she said there was NO food included with the offer and that if I showed up overcomped to start with I'd have to work THAT off before getting any food comped.

To put RFB in the offer, in my opinion, is absolutely bait and switch! Not everyone reads the fine print!

I had the offer booked and told her to cancel it. I will never, EVER spend a dime in NYNY.

Mare,

I should have know better reading your previous posts w/r/t NYNY. The part that gets me is this that I got this in writing:

"At RFB that would be $75 in food/beverage per day and I would evaluate your play for further
comps".

I would be okay with using my Express comps if I didn't get that email telling me that food was included and I could get "further" comps based on my play. Ironically, one of my buddies insisted on picking up the tab at Gallagher's steak house (which was a fantastic meal) even after I told him that I would most likely get it comped.

I emailed my host and asked if I had used all of my Express comps on show tickets before I checked out, would they have comped the food. That's when the emails abruptly stopped. No answer, obviously.

I chose them over other Mlife offers that had the same offer w/o RFL. I stayed at Excalibur in Feb and they comped all my food without me even asking my host, and they never touched my Express comps.

The hotel was quite full, but there seemed to be little action in the casino. In fact there were only 2 of us in the hi-limit slot room for the better part of a day. You'd think they would cater to a more regular gambling customer, but I guess not. I honestly believe that some of us could run a much better marketing dept. than what they now have. Any business survives and thrives on repeat customers.

Live and learn...never again.
In my opinion NYNY is the worst of all the MGM properties about doing what they promise to do. I have had more problems and had to go over more peoples heads to
get what was promised me their than all other places combined. It is a shame because I like the casino but won't stay there anymore.
I would think you'd be okay with that wording, too, but they really have head-up-butt syndrome there. After reading so many people's horror stories about NYNY I was convinced not to even try it. I'm sorry you got screwed.
I'm fairly new at this and have received an offer for 300 in free play and 200 in food. What is rfb and how do I know if they are scamming me in the same way?

RFB is room-food-beverage and usually has a limit on it such as your $200 in food. This usually pretty straight forward however at NYNY and a few other places there may be some fine print or hidden requirements. Keep a copy of your marketing offer or emails from your host.

At NYNY I suggest calling marketing or host asking for details.

Bigman,

Good luck. Even with emails from my host as confirmation, my food was not comped. Be prepared to use your express comps for the food (and even the room if you don't play enough).

I had no small print on my offer.

See above to see how that turned out for me.
