Resort fees on Comp stay

Stayed at MGM last month on comped offer. They told me when I booked the resort fee was going to be charged. Part of my offer was resort credit, which was enough to cover resort fees, but at checkout I asked to have the resort fees removed. They looked at my play and removed them. We used the resort credit for the spa charges. It's safe to say they are trying to start charging resort fees even on comped rooms, but you can still get out of it if you play...and you play nice with the staff. My friends were at the Monte Carlo and it was exactly the same. I am gold, but I'm sure bigger players probably don't have the fees at all.
I got three free nights at the Mirage for next April. When I called and made the reservation the VIP services rep clearly stated that I would "not" be charged a resort fee. When I was emailed the reservation it had the standard disclaimer that says I will be charged the resort fee, $25 per day. I don't think I paid it last time(June) and assume the VIP agent is correct and I will not be charged as stated in the "standard" disclaimer.
I just booked MGM with 3 nights comped...no mention of resort fees when I booked...curious to see what happends... I usually visit the MLife desk before check out and they remove some fees, depending on how much I play. Always ask, can't hurt11
I was at Mirage and Bellagio in Nov (comped). Both said there would be resort fees upon booking, but no charges on checking out.

staying at monte carlo in feb on a ameristar comp through the affiliation with MGM. The offer I called about was to expire on Jan 31 but they did go ahead and comp me the 2 nights but informed me I would be charged $22 per night resort fee. I am not going to complain as we have not been to Vegas in 2 years and have no MGM casino anywhere close to us.
maybe just maybe the charges will not show up or be erased when we check out.

I was looking to fill in 2 nights between back to back offers at Paris, coming up at the end of December. I used to be Platinum at MGM, but switched back to Caeasars a few years ago and dropped back down to the lowest status at MGM.

Amazingly I just received MGM's fall offers and was able to book 2 comped nights at Luxor, which is great because I really didn't want to have to pay to stay somewhere (pay for a hotel room in Vegas, unheard of!). We don't plan on gambling much there, so I'm assuming we will have to pay the resort fee. Based on the comments it appears if you play they'll take it off, but if you stiff them they will charge you. I won't mind paying $40 for the 2 nights, it's cheaper than anything else I could find.
