Staying at MGM Grand

We will be staying at the MGM Grand next week. We got this room on a comp - one of the few still offered to me since I haven't been able to visit Las Vegas in quite a while.
The last time we stayed at MGM was well over ten years ago and I can remember thinking it was okay but so big! I spent so much time wandering and kept getting lost going back to our room.
Wondering what kind of changes they might have made and if we should try to ask for a particular room type on check-in. We have very little clout but perhaps we could get lucky. Any suggestions? Thanks.
The MGM has begun a complete remodel, we would be very interested in a report after your trip.

The Deluxe King is their standard room and is just fine, avoid the West Wing it's marketed as an upgrade but the rooms are tiny and are only fit for a young couple or a single though it has very modern furnishing. A good upgrade would be a Bungalow Suite, it's larger with a separate sitting area.

Good luck and have fun!
Let us know how the remodeling is going along.
Rocky - Thanks for the heads up! How would I know that they are putting us in the West Wing? Do they call it that? I think I've been spoiled in the past by Venetian and Wynn rooms so tiny does not sound good!
The West Wing is the tower closest to the Strip and that is one of it's best features. It is actually the old Marina hotel with heavy renovation but they couldn't enlarge the rooms. You would be told at check-in that you are being up-graded to the West, just say no thank you. There is a small bar in the West Wing that I am fond of.

Also, there is a MGM check-in at the airport that can save time. One spouse checks in while the other waits for checked luggage. The MGM counter is in the South baggage claim.

The Grand Tower has another wing over on
the opposite side of the lobby check-in area.

This wing only has 3 stories so it's very easy
in and out from your room.

There's never a wait for one of the 2 elevators.

Very less crowded on the them too.

Most of the time you will be the only folks riding.

If you have a car, one way to get quicker valet
service is to call them and tell them you are coming.

When you arrive at the valet window they will put your ticket stub on top of the pile.

Hope you do well in the gambling department!!!
I actually like the West Wing because it is close to the Strip, buffet and the sportsbook. But I understand why many wouldn't.

Edited to say: MGM is so large with so many rooms they often have promotions to move the excess. I second the suggestion to upgrade to the Bungalow Suites if price is reasonable.
