What are my Chances for a Comp Upgrade at Signature/ MGM

Hi,

After flying into San Diego to visit a family Marine we are driving to Vegas as part of our "30th birthday/ 2nd anniversary pre-wedding honeymoon" (yep, gonna party like we are 21 again!).

I managed to get us 4 nights at the Signature during their buy 3 get 1 free promo. The Mr. thinks we are staying at Motel 6 as he has never been to Vegas and has no clue what the hotels are like.

I was wondering if anyone has been upgraded from a Jr Suite to a 1BR Suite? I was silly to watch some You tube videos of the 1BR and now I want one but the $ difference would cut back on my shoe shopping. We are staying there Sun-Thurs if that might help?

Should I do the $20-40 dollar trick? it's the Mr.'s 30th birthday on our 2nd day so should I try for the "it's his birthday" request? Also any suggestions as to which tower to stay in?

Thanks in advance. I appreciate the insightful answers on here. It makes my day at work go much faster when I can do trip research at the same time :D
I have no experience at the MGM, but I use the $20 trick a lot.

Do the usual ploy: put the $20 bill (no more than that) between your credit card and driver's licence, and as you hand it over with a wide-eyed anticipatory smile (like you have never been to Vegas) discretely say "It's a special trip, his 30th birthday, if you have a 1 Bedroom Suite available that would be great." Might work, or they might at least sweeten the deal some other way, like the better tower, strip view, high floor, etc.

Good luck and enjoy your trip regardless!
What tower depends on what you want to do. Tower A is closest to the MGM. Tower B has the nicest pool and the only pool open year around. Signature has a lot of privately owned units so that may impact your chance of an upgrade but it never hurts to try. The 1 bedroom suites are really nice with the full kitchen and balcony. We stayed there in March for our daughter's wedding. There were 13 of us and we had 2 of the 1 bedroom/studio units and a 3rd studio unit. The service was excellent from everyone there and they made the whole trip just perfect.
Thanks for the advice, I will try the $20 trick and report back if successful! I can't wait to go

debwils----gotta ask...........HOW did you put 13 people in 3 rooms??
The 1 bedroom/Studio units were really big. They had 1 bedroom with a full kitchen, living room, and 1 3/4 bathrooms. The studio part had 2 queen beds. That meant we had 8 beds total with the units. We had 3 couples/families with kids. My daughter and her husband had one of the bedroom/studio units for them and their 3 daughters. We had the other similar unit for my husband and I along with our other daughter and her 2 sons. My son-in-law's parents had the single studio unit for them and their daughter. Total 13 people in 3 units.
Thanks for 'splaining Deb. Sounds like you got that down to a science.

We had an Anniv. in Vegas years ago, and were juggling 15 rooms of friends/family.
That was hard enough. lol
Haven't done it since!

To the op, I would definately do the $20 trick & BD explanation. Lay it on thick, be nice, & smile!
