Hotel stay required for free buffets

Is this new? I see they are requiring a 1 night minimum room stay at any MGM resort property to use a free buffet for 2 reward. Does using a MYVegas complimentary room reward satisfy this requirement, or do I have to purchase a room out of pocket?
This started a few weeks ago. Maybe September 1st? Not sure of the exact date. Staying at another hotel property will end up costing you double the L.P.'s.

I would think using the MyVegas room comp would count. I would bring the official hotel confirmation info when you book the free buffet so they can easily verify
MyVegas room comp does count. We did that in September.

I don't understand you comment about room costing double L.P.s. Are you saying to only stay at the hotel where you want to eat the buffets. MyVegas is making it very difficult to redeem rewards. We have redeemed the maximum rewards for the last 2 trips. We have seen all the Cirque shows, so the buffets were the only thing left that I wanted. Now they are making you stay at their property in order to redeem. I think It's almost not worth it any more to spend so much time playing this game.

For most of the buffets you can buy them if not staying on property but the cost is higher. Usually double. I will be in Vegas next month and have bought Mirage, Monte Carlo and Bellagio buffets.
Sandy Lee has it correct. I will not pay the higher buffet rates if I am not interested in staying at a certain property but luckily for me I was able to secure an excellent rate

Thanks for the correction / followup 51090

what's going on with this new rule. Is there any way to complain, or would it be fruitless?

It's all FREE to play and redeem.

myVEGAS make the rules, and if someone doesn't like them they don't have to play.

I just redeemed some points for a free room and I will be able to use other points for buffets and restaurants (so an additional 5 coupons for my husband and myself). You only need to stay at any MGM resort and are able to redeem at other properties. It is worth it for us since we will arrive late one evening and have a one night stay for points before we move to our resort for the week. I was unsure if I could use the one night reservation to book against future redemption's for the week, but I have it in writing that it's fine to do so.
I just found out about this new requirement that you have to stay at an MGM property to redeem certain awards. I got the Nine Fine Irishmen dining credit and then saw the T&C after making the redemption. I got this reward last year when I was there and that was not part of the deal, so I had no idea they changed the terms. Luckily, we are staying at Aria so it won't be an issue.
