In football a 5 year penalty big, 15 yards bigger, P.O when the other team is about to score a TD really IS a TD (1st and goal on the 1). Ok, that's TOO big a penalty but you get the id......
In hockey a power play is a big deal.......
In soccer, a corner kick a pretty big deal, a penalty kick similar to P.O in the end zone in some ways!
In Basketball, any 60% FT shooter should be maimed as soon as he gets the ball in the Paint low.......STUPID!!!
Actually, in soccer a corner kick is not for a penalty, and a PK are converted >85% of the time.
Hockey power play is not rewarding a direct shot on goal, a la a NBA free throw or a penalty kick in soccer... Only thing comparable is a penalty shot for NHL.
Plus, huge difference is that in soccer/hockey, how many goals scored a game avg? Hardly any. Thus, the PK or PS or P.O. in the end zone for 1st & goal on the 1 are:
Rarely seen and
are a HUGE deal
They used to not call as many fouls in the NBA. Due to desire for increased scoring, they changed the rules. Thus, more fouls and FT. Same thing is happening in NFL w/ the pass interference penalties but that wasn't enough so they add all the extremely judgmental 15 yrd personal fouls for roughing the passer or hit to defenselessness receiver. It's all to increase scoring...
And you can't just maim the player in the post because
a) you don't have enough fouls to do that
b) if you stick the goons in there to foul their 60% shooter in the post, its a huge disadvantage for your team on offense as well as in defensive rotations, because that 60% won't get the ball each possession.
Your logic is not making sense here...
