Basketball: They need to change the foul rules

Right... he was saying "just a few mins left"... I assumed very end, vs 3-4 but u guys got it right. Hell, this is no new strategy... I remember 30 yrs ago when I was in youth basketball. No 3 pointers, no backcourt defense allowed, 10 seconds to get ball across midcourt, running clock on all baskets, no shot clock. We were up by 4 with about 20 seconds left Other team took timeout & had ball Our coach told us: "If they score in the next 5 seconds, get the ball after the made basket, count to 4, inbound the ball, and stay behind midcourt until the game is over." Easy win. I guess if you had a timeout, you could call timeout in the backcourt after 9 seconds elapse, and get the inbounds in the backcourt to burn another 9 seconds free.
End of the half HILARIOUS in the NBA made basket :31 left The team RUSHES in the NBA to inbounds.......it is like they have NO IDEA abut the rule. This litter trick (and the roll out of the ball) would kill the 2 for 1 strategy!

Top 3 lines I yell. 1) OMG this coach is a f%&*ing idiot. 2) You have got to be kidding me, another missed layup. 3) 31 seconds left, why are they trying to take last shot when the shot-clock is at 22? "Mind boggling".
I blame the assistant coaches and the point guards for all of these inbounds rules. If I'm an assistant coach, I would know every in and out of the game as I can focus on details the head coach cannot.

There are a million errors on 2-1 and endgame situations in the NBA, but I cut the coaches some slack as I can imagine it being a little difficult to teach these situations to NBA players. For every player that would get it right, 2 more would be jacking 3 pointers with 24 or 40 seconds on the game clock. It seems the unwritten compromise is that nobody teaches it, and we all just run the clock and take a shitty shot late.
It would be adjusted to. You wait 4 seconds every time to throw the ball in you'll allow the defence to adjust to it make it much harder to even get a ball into a guy to start the possession. And if they got the guy covered after the 4 seconds elapsed I guess you call a timeout or risk a turnover. My general comment is far too many of these strategy angles whether it be "2 for 1's" or "take the time on the inbounds" or "why don't coaches go more on 4th and 1 in football" I think there are some good ideas put out there but I don't think they're always considering what the opposition will do once it is noticed. Which will be immediately.
disageee teams go for the last shot 50 years later no coach on d goes to the half coart trap
My comments more referred to the team with the 15 pt lead and more than 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter and they were taking an extra 4 seconds off the clock by delaying in bounds passes after made FG by the opposition. I just think any systematic attempt to do that would be stopped. I don't think you would need to do a full court press to at least force some speed up of an inbounds pass. Regarding the specific situation with 31 seconds left, we've established this only works in the first 3 quarters because the clock will stop after the made FG in the 4th quarter. I absolutely agree with you of course they want the last shot and if you could waste enough time and roll the ball in every time this situation occurred it could work. Certainly worth a go. But it won't IMO for the same reasons. It will be tactic spotted by an advance scout or a coach within the game or player. The delay after the hoop will go to the referee if unwarranted and will be a warning and then a technical after that if they really are delaying just to delay the game. And the inbounds pass will be handled by a few guys down low to at least do a "courtesy check" in the front court. The longer they wait to do the pass the more aggressive the check will become. It won't get that far because the team trying to kill time won't do it once they even see a courtesy check. No half court traps needed.
