The methods get caught up to because other intelligent people see someone with a great edge and want a piece of it themselves, or they "kill the golden goose" by trying to make too much money too fast from too few sources.
You pointed out one of the reasons, for all of Dr. Bob's supposed intelligence and numbers sense and modeling skills, he is hopeless as a bettor and has ruined whatever edge he once had, or at least made it impossible for himself to bet his own bets.
