HEAT UNDER 64.5 Wins, -120 at the M

Interesting game - I think Miami will be fine but they are obviously a jump shooting team that will have off shooting nights. And certainly no shoe in to beat Boston or Orl coming out of the East even full strength. But I thought they came on pretty strong in the 2H and Wade just needs to get in game shape.
The thing is this: Boston has played together for several seasons, had a very good night, and are a well-oiled machine already at the start of the season. Miami had a big case of the nerves, played absolutely horrible, have not even come close to meshing as a team, and LeBron still almost got them over the hump in a fairly close game down the stretch that they should have been 20 points down. Heat will win about 60 games barring major injuries. It'll take them a month imo before they begin to start meshing as a team. Some have called the Heat a jump-shooting team, but I don't think that's entirely accurate. The jump shots should be clear open looks for the support cast, and there will be plenty of guys able to play in space and get open looks or cut to the basket for layups as teams are forced to double LeBron and Wade away from the basket. Plus, LeBron and Wade love to go to the rack even when they do it themselves. And I haven't even gotten to Bosh yet. They can't double him. Somebody's gotta be open most of the time. Bottom-line, there should be a lot of points scored close to the basket, and a whole lot of the jump shots should be open looks, which are much, much easier (higher fg%) to make than your traditionally contested jump shot. They are really gonna miss Mike Miller unless someone steps up and starts shooting lights-out from the perimeter. The Heat may turn deadly about 2 weeks after he comes back when his shot starts dropping and he works his way into the offense. The potential problem may be with some of the other players not moving well without the ball to create easy baskets when LeBron and Wade have the ball. When LeBron and Wade get it going on the same night, it's gonna be sick. Some of these games throughout the season against weak and beaten-down opponents will have everything but the bucket of confetti. The difference between Miami and the title are: 1.Meshing on offense (they should do this fairly quickly, within a month or two, I would think). 2.Developing a team identity, and getting the role players integrated into the team concept. Doing #1 & #3 fluidly and with confidence. 3.Playing solid team defense. Chase-downs are sexy, but getting the other team to run down the 24 second clock without getting a decent shot off is what's gonna get them through the playoffs imo.
My two cents...
I disagree with Fez's comment that the Big 3 will not care about anything other than winning the NBA title. I have seen nothing but comments and staging that they expect to be the greatest team of all time. Winning the first seed in the East is not their ambition. They want to be known as the greatest team ever.
In my OPINION, there is BIG difference between the first season that the Celtics got Garnett and Ray Allen and this season when Miami got Lebron and Bosh. Lebron James is a PLAYER and I don't mean hoops. He went to South Beach for the parties and women as much as the basketball. I don't blame him. The weather and night life in South Beach is MUCH better than in Cleveland. When Kevin Garnett went to the Celtics, did he have an ESPN special to announce it? Did they have a “Three Kings Party,” in Boston? Kevin Garnett is a stone-cold basketball manic -- the ultimate team player. Lebron is all about himself. Of course, they SAY they want to be the best team ever. Well, every team wants to be the best team ever. I have seen no evidence of the relentless, selfless dedication, passion and hard work that makes a champion. I think they will coast through the regular season and turn it on for the playoffs. As everyone who read my NBA futures knows already, I think the Magic will win more games this season than the Heat. I got the Magic at a huge price to win the Southeast division (Heat were 2/9), which is effectively betting that the Magic will win more games this season than the Heat. I, of course, could be totally wrong. We'll see. Prof M.
There will be about 20 games this year that will not be decided by Lebron, Wade or Bosh. Pat Riley, the NBA scheduler, made or missed buzzer-beaters, and the NBA playoff seeding system (as noted in the post above) will decide the rest.
How about the impact of the referees? With Miami being anointed the team of the century, will they get all the close calls?

Garnett was traded, he didn't sign as a free agent. So his "decision" (although Im sure he had some say) was kind of made for him. Hard to compare that to Lebron IMO

70 points Uhoh.. Held Magic to lowest point total since who knows how long. Defense looks a lot like that Celts team actually. Heat und 63.5 +120 up at matchbook.
How about the impact of the referees? With Miami being anointed the team of the century, will they get all the close calls?
No less or less than before, which was a lot.
How about the impact of the referees? With Miami being anointed the team of the century, will they get all the close calls?
I don't think LeBron and Dwayne will get any more close calls than before, which is most of them.
68 wins easy if all 3 stay healthy if they get any help at all to come along (Mike Miller, Fish, Zeus, Shaq, etc etc...) Can you imagine the line when the Heat (possibly early or midway thru the year) are in the midst of a 7-10 game winning streak and the T'Wolves or Wizards stroll into town with a 14-30 record or something on the back end of a road back to back? It is possible we might see some 18.5 point lines... Don't underestimate how good this trio is. This is possibly the overall best trio (Overall talent) in the history of the NBA.
5-4 so far.
