Prof Meyer: SDQL query question

Prof Meyer: SDQL query question Is there any way to do a query for the first game of the season for each team?
Also, can we see something about teams in the game following kicking five field goals in a game? It takes a special kind of game to kick five FGs, and I wonder whether there is a tangible effect.
Is there any way to do a query for the first game of the season for each team?
There are a number of ways in the NBA. You could use: rest>50 or you could use: wins=losses=0 In the NBA, of course, sometimes one team is playing their first game of the season and their opponent is not. There is one thing you should be aware of. The database starts in 1995-96, so there are no rest numbers for the opening game of that season. Therefore rest>30 will not include the opening games of the 1995-96 season, but wins=losses=0 will. So, if you want to see how home teams do in game one, use: H and wins=losses=0 If you want a listing of how every team has done in game one, use: wins=losses=0 and team Check out the Lakers' and the Rockets' OU records in their openers -- and they play each other on Tuesday. Thanks for the question. Keep'em coming. Prof Meyer

To see all the games in which a team licked at least five field goals, use: FG>=5 To see all the games in which a team kicked at least four field goals in each of their last two games, use: p:FG>=4 and pp:FG>=4 Thanks for the question. Thanks. I was searching to see if perhaps the home court advantage was overrated b/c of no travel weary teams. Or maybe under accounted for b/c of more full arenas for game 1. Turns out the market has been right on the money accounting for it. Unders have performed well though. Probably more defensive effort in game 1 than in your normal regular season games. rest>50 and site==home SU: 129-88 (2.2) ATS: 107-106-4 (-1.1) avg line: -3.4 O/U: 95-119-3 (-1.3) avg total: 191.6
More on the opener Piggybacking on what you uncovered as far as the OU record in the home opener... The league is 15-34-1 OU when both teams are playing their first game of the season and the total is higher than 199. o:wins=o:losses=wins=losses=0 and site==home and total>199 This will probably be active in the Suns-Blazers game this Tuesday. Prof Meyer
