Roy Williams
If tonight doesn't prove what an overrated coach this guy is, then I don't know what will prove that point. Dick Vitale makes me sick talking about how little talent North Carolina has. THEY HAVE SEVEN MCDONALD'S ALL-AMERICANS ON THIS ROSTER. Dexter Strickland John Henson Travis Wear David Wear Ed Davis Larry Drew II Tyler Zeller (injured) This proves that Roy Williams can only win a national title when he has four lottery picks. What an overrated piece of garbage.
Put Ty Lawson or Kalin Lucas with Carolina this year and they are a top 5 team
Say what you want about Roy Williams. I am a Kansas alum and a die-hard KU fan. I saw a no-nothing former assistant coach take over in 1989 a Kansas squad with very little talent and kick national butt. He also did it in following years with much lesser players than the teams he beat. It's easy to bash Roy. He does wear his heart on his sleeve. He's easy to make fun of. The man wins. When you have Mark Randall (who?) as your top player and you defeat Shaquille O'Neal and Chris Jackson, the #2 LSU Tigers, and the #1 UNLV Rebels by 14 points in 1989 in Roy's first year, that doesn't happen by luck. Roy Williams=damn good coach
Oops, I forgot to add some details about the 1991 Kansas team coached by Roy Williams. Led by the afore-mentioned Mark Randall, the only KU NBA draft choice from the team who would play for four NBA teams in 4 years and average 2.6 ppg, Kansas made it to the national championship game losing to Duke by 7 points. Williams, facing NCAA penalties from Larry Brown in 1987, took a team of no-names through the NCAA Tournament beating the #3 Indiana Hoosiers, coached by Bobby Knight, by 18 points, beating the #2 Arkansas Razorbacks coached by Nolan Richardson, and then beating the #4 North Carolina Tar Heels coach by KU alum, Dean Smith. So why does everybody think Roy Williams is such a terrible coach? Again, he took a team of nobodies to within 8 points of being the national champion. He wasn't awarded an easy path to the national championship game. Maybe Roy Williams has now become a terrible coach. But back in 1989 to 1991, and further, he was a great coach. Did he forget how to coach? Don't understand why nobody has replied to my posts.
