Small Market Teams Down In Series, Bigger HFA?

Small Market Teams Down In Series, Bigger HFA? It sure seems like the good fans of Okl City, Memphis, etc. never give up on their home team heros (Sea qualified also). Contrast that to the jaded boo birds Of Philly, LA, NY, etc....... The Memphis HFA is ENORMOUS right now....
good thought, bears discussion. I know you're not trying to hear this but I harken back to the words of Boston; HFA Doesn't = fans...HFA= Comfort. Now obviously the fans have their role in this, but these guys are just so proffesional. What I have noticed, and this also is emblymatic of the proffesionalism, is that the home team in every game surges out to an early lead...it seems to have the markings of a home team blow-out as much as a game can at that stage, but a closer look will show the other team is just poised, as if they expected it, and they end up catching back up usually by the first quarter's end. If only they had a prop bet something of the variety of "biggest first quarter lead by either team" or by home team, you could lay double the spread of the first quarter line, and be 6-0 I do believe. I still think the bigger advantage to look for is "all encompassed comfort"...
Interesting phenonomen. I doubt if you could get much booing out of the Viking fans or the Milwaukee Brewers no matter what their teams did on the field. Those teams in those smaller markets are all the fans have. Whether it affects winning and losing is another subject. The Twins have had very good success last 10 years as well as the Vikings with very small payrolls and limited attendance in total numbers. Philly would boo a winner and of course any New York team expects to win, as does Boston. Cleveland's only hope was Lebron James and he's gone, so what happens the Indians catch fire. Home teams do tend to win more in general. Interesting phenonomen. Someone should study it.
What u are forgetting is that Mem is winning... thus their fans are more involved. U are remembering games in cities where their teams were losing the game in which the boos rang out. If Mem was behind by 10-15 for 12+ minutes, I'm sure the fans would not be going crazy.... Plus, they are an 8 seed so they have a huge underdog feel to them, as well as the fact the city has been through a lot recently. If the Phi Eagles were beating the Giants or the Cowboys in a playoff game, their fans would be cheering. The other factor is Mem has never won squat before... If you take any team in any city in which they've never won squat for that sport, and they are in the playoffs and winning, they are not going to be booing.

Memphis-OKC two of the best homecourts all year, pretty much for the small market reason you mentioned. It's more of a college atmosphere. Similar to what Golden State had when they were in the playoffs, and Sacramento too.

Not sure they were real friendly when Trevor Hoffman was struggling either but Suppan definitely heard the boos. Pretty sure the Vikings fans booed loud and long during this past year when the team was falling apart.
That theory didn’t work very well for the Spurs or Blazers. I have seen over the years HFA, HCA is bigger for the nouveau riche.
Big Market 'contender' teams seem to have HFA crumbler the most NO WAY the Yankees are getting much support if 78-73
