Wed 1/26/11 CBB

Wed 1/26/11 CBB 8-6 last night (14-8 this week). Wednesday will always be a bigger card just due to volume of games, but trying to be less ridiculous this week. 721 Iowa/Penn State OV 130' Taking more overs in the Big 10 due to the tighter officiating. Penn State has had a week off. Iowa finally got their first Big 10 win so some of the pressure is off and they can play a little more loose. 723 Drexel/James Madison OV 134 724 James Madison (-4') (-105) JMU off 2 tough losses to Mason at home and in OT at Hofstra. Ordinarily this would be good spot to go against JMU, but Drexel's been getting happy off the softer teams in CAA last week or so. 726 Providence (+6) Providence first Big East win on Saturday. That takes monkey off their back. I hate their "Tom Davis" style of play, but they are better this year than they were last year, especially defensively. This is a bit of a dead spot in BE schedule for Nova. After playing at UConn and at Cuse and after this game having Georgetown, Marquette, West Virginia. 727 West Virginia/Louisville OV 140 Total went down 4.5 pts from the opener. WVU leading scorer Casey Mitchell is suspended. WVU can make up for losing his scoring for at least this game. 730 Georgetown (-7') (-108) St. John's still a bit too inconsistent on the road. Georgetown remembers these guys celebrating like they won the title against them a few weeks ago. 735 Old Dominion/Georgia State OV 117 739 Evansville (+7) (-104) 739 Evansville/Indiana State OV 127 Indiana St is 6-1 L7 overall and has had great effort in all of them, including blowing out Northern Iowa at home, buzzer-beater over Creighton, making 2 FT's to beat Missouri St at the buzzer, then taking Wichita to triple OT. Eventually when a team puts that many good efforts together, they can't sustain it and eventually they'll crack. 741 Wichita State/Southern Illinois OV 128 743 Eastern Michigan/Ohio OV 60 FH 745 Southern Miss (-2) So Miss, known for its defense under Larry Eustachy, gave up 30-43 (almost 70% shooting) at SMU last Saturday. East Carolina is off 2 straight huge upsets on the road at UCF, then at Marshall. So why is USM the fav? B/c they are the better team and expect them to have a monster effort here after playing like shit at SMU. 753 George Washington (+13') After an up and down pre-conference, Xavier seemingly has it together and is off a big win over Temple on Saturday. X has a huge game at Richmond on Saturday. GW off 2 losses. Kind of a dead spot for X. 755 Duquesne/Fordham OV 145' 756 Fordham (+14') 758 Oklahoma St (+2') (-104) FH 758 Oklahoma St (+4') (-107) Game Good spot to go against Texas. They have had to have read their press clippings. OK State is solid defensively and I like defensive home dogs. 760 Miami FL (+1) (-109) Miami had a great effort to come back at NC State and had 2 shots to win. Good spot to play them here b/c they were that close to winning on the road and played bad for 30 minutes. Even with UNC being slightly down, teams still get up for them. 767 Marshall (+6) (-105) UAB was up for Memphis and has never been able to beat them. They should have won Saturday and came up short yet again in OT. Total hangover effect here especially against a Marshall team off a bad loss at home to East Carolina. 770 Air Force/Colorado State UN 133' 771 Illinois State/Bradley OV 127' 774 SMU/Tulsa UN 60 FH SMU shot 70% against Southern Miss on Saturday, their 2nd-best performance ever. 777 Northwestern (+2')(-102) FH 777 Northwestern (+5) (-104) Game Northwestern off a 30-point loss at home. Minnesota on 3-game win streak. Northwestern actually seems to play better on the road. Minnesota is erratic. 797 Citadel (+10) (-120) 798 Citadel/Davidson UN 134'
761 UCF (+5') UCF is off 2 straight home losses where they lost outright as double-digit favorites. They were 14-0, ranked and the surprise of the season. Now they have come back to earth. Meanwhile, Memphis has emerged with a 3-game win streak and got their season's biggest win at UAB on Saturday? This line seems low. Memphis looks too easy.
783 Tulane (+12) (-105) 787 Texas Tech/Iowa State OV 149 790 New Mexico (-13) (-108) 792 Long Beach St/Pacific UN 132 793 San Diego St (+3) (-105) FH 793 San Diego St (+5') Game 794 San Diego St/BYU UN 145' All the press this week has been BYU this, Jimmer Fredette that. I think the Aztecs are feeling a bit slighted. BYU has not been the feature game amongst national media types in a LONG time. I think they will be a bit nervous here.
782 Northern Iowa (-6') Creighton blew a huge lead at Missouri State on Saturday. Potential hangover effect and now they have to play a meat-grinder defensive and slower paced UNI bunch.
