car rental

As a newbie to car rentals in Vegas, the transportation page is a little overwhelming to me
If I want a car for 7-8 days where do I look for codes to use?
I am flexable for getting one at the hotel if it will save me at least $10 (shuttle from the airport )

I also tried using the codes listed for Costco but i am finding the prices about 25-40% higher than the forum users are stating.
Is there a trick to using the codes and knowing which ones will work?
Thanks, MO
During more investigation has anyone heard of Advantage rental cars?( one of the AMEX car offers)

Might be best to check out and post these car rental questions in the Transportation forum ....
Last year we had a little thing called the Maui code for Alamo and it was sweet. Not so this year. Depending when you are going, you can get a good deal. I look on the transportation forum under any posts that say things like Alamo codes, cheap rental car rates etc. You can also go online and type in "rental car discount codes" to do a search. I recently found that while the taxes were much lower at off site rental locations vs the airport, the car rental rates are much higher per day. Ugh. Hope this helps and welcome to the boards. Don't be intimidated by the forums--unless you post, you can lurk and read all you want. No one but you will know if you don't read the exact posts you need!

I comparison shop on southwest.com

Not only do I see the rates from All the rental companies, but can try different codes,
and often SW has deals too. That's where I start, and may be less overwhelming.
We have used Budget, Dollar, Alamo, and National. This trip coming in Jan I clicked on Alamo one evening and seen a $50 coupon offer for a 5 day or more rental. I got a mid-size with all charges $143.00 for the week. Another thing you may try is just go into Hotwire.com and see what rates they have listed. If you think the price is good then book it right then and there. If not there is a place you check and they will keep you updated when the price drops. They charge you at the time you rent it on Hotwire so no cancellations without losing some or part of your money. Never eally had a problem with anyone of the renatl companies. Best to join the Car Club before you rent saves time at the check-in you go straight to the place where the cars are located. Hotwire I have had to stop at the counter.
I always use Priceline.com for Las Vegas car rentals. You pay your own price! I have always had a major car company and good rates. You won't know which company till you book it. It is not changeable.

You can search for price people won on in the past a t one of the bidding sites. See bidding.com or one of the other sites.
For comparison pricing try http://www.carrentals.com/
We always use Alamo. If you sign up for their Quicksilver program you get a 10% discount plus you can by-pass the counter and use their kiosks.

You can find some discount codes here. http://www.rentalcodes.com/alamo.html
