Just joined and need some advice

Hey All,

I just joined LVA because I'm headed to Vegas at the end of July (and hope to make it a more frequent trip b/c a good friend moved out there).

Anyway, I have a question about booking a hotel:

I don't plan to be a big player (will only bring a couple hundred to play with each trip) and thus don't expect comps, so I want to get a bang for my hotel buck.

I notice LVA has some enticing hotel promo rates up right now that I could use but I'm not sure if I need to lock myself in right now to a certain place or price.

I'm just curious, is there a better time to wait for discount promos and should I wait until I get close (say mid-June) to book?

Any help would be great.
Welcome to the group!

I don't know about signing up for the online deals stuff but if you want to have at least discounted rooms in the future, I think a good place to go is Four Queens in Downtown LV because they have good Video Poker (9/6 Jacks Or Better and 8/5 Bonus Poker) that you can play on as low as Nickel Machines (so that would be $0.25 of coin-in to play a full pay [where you'd get the 4,000 coin jackpot for hitting a Royal Flush]). For Video Poker play with the Slot Club card inserted at all times, they offer 0.31% in cashback plus another 1.00% in Comps (which I think include future room offers).

Are you driving or flying? If you are flying, as I’m sure you already know, the earlier you get your airline tixs usually the cheaper they are. The same holds true with hotel prices (in general) unless you can find the preverbal “72 hour sale” or special promotions. What you can try is to sign up online and get onto several casinos’ email lists. You will get periodic emails about special room rates and promotions and sometimes they do have some pretty good prices. The special pricing is usually good for a limited time like a week or so but if you book a room using that promotion; you can book as far in advance as 3 or 4 months away.

Once you get to Vegas, sign up for a player’s card to as many casinos as you find to your liking. That’s how they keep track of your comps but if you don’t plan on gambling that much like you said, sign up anyway. You will start to get special offers in the mail, which are better than the email offers and you don’t even have to gamble very much. Of course if you do, you can get comps for meals and rooms even if it’s for a few bucks off of a meal.
When booking hotels, its generally much cheaper to go directly through the website. Lots of the hotels off the strip have a link to book hotels, but then a 2nd link along the top for "promotions" or "deals". They generally give you better rates than something like expedia or the regular "book a room" link that the hotel has as a main booking agent on their website.
