9/30 - 10/2 College Football

9/30 - 10/2 College Football 20-21 last week for first CFB losing week. Still started out like 3-11 on Saturday and came back to avert total disaster. 104-76-2 YTD (57.7%) Late start this week. 105 Texas (+4) Obviously not impressed with Texas off LW's result, but I wouldn't want the Sooners either. Texas still has a really good defense and got put in jail on short fields off 5 TO's. Texas has 14 sacks this year. OU's defense is not very good and can be had. Taking the dog with the better defense. 109/110 Ohio/Eastern Michigan UN 52' 110 Eastern Michigan (+10) E Mich gave up 73 pts LW so the natural inclination is to take the over. The trick to CFB is not to focus on prev week's results. In addition, although E Michigan is winless yet again this year (0-12 LY), who the hell is Ohio to lay DD on the road? 187/188 La Tech/Hawaii UN 60 Hawaii had 6 TD passes at the half against Charleston So. LT switched to juco QB LW Hakmi after pulling starter Cameron who was picked off on first play. La Tech still having a ton of trouble picking up Dykes' Air Raid offense.
125/126 Tulane/Rutgers UN 44 Tulane has held all 3 of their opp to season-low in yardage. Rutgers also has a good defense but a lackluster offense with a banged-up QB. Tulane starting QB Griffin is also doubtful for this game. 127/128 Temple/Army UN 42 128 Army (+5) (-102) Temple somehow hung in with Penn State even though Penn State seemed to dominate them. Teams that run the ball better than their opponents and are underdogs will get my $ more often than not.
107 Vanderbilt (+7') (-107) 107/108 Vanderbilt/Connecticut UN 47 UConn got a win and cover LW, but that's just b/c Buffalo stunk it up in the 2nd Half. Vandy off a bye. 5th straight game for UConn with a Friday nighter against Rutgers upcoming. UConn has QB controversy with Frazer being benched and Endres back from 3-game suspension LW. Vandy playing hard for this new cooky coach. 169/170 Florida St/Virginia UN 49 (-114) 170 Virginia (+7) two decent defenses here that are running the ball more. Florida St off two big wins at home over BYU and Wake, so now they are good again, right? UVA still is perceived as bad. They are improved and I like their defense and the fact that they don't run a spread. Mike London, former Richmond coach, is a big upgrade over Groh. FSU bringing more pressure under Mark Stoops. I expect UVA to run a lot of quick hitters at that FSU blitz. 180 Clemson (+3') Miami on their third straight road game with the Noles on deck. Clemson got a major blessing with a bye LW off that physical game down at Auburn. 121/122 East Carolina/North Carolina UN 58
137/138 Kansas/Baylor OV 51 KU had real problems stopping the Southern Miss spread a few weeks ago. KU offense has improved over the course of the season, but the defense will have trouble here. Baylor QB Griffin is even better than Davis at Southern Miss.

114 Michigan State (+2) (-103) 115/116 Michigan/Indiana UN 66' Taking a chance on going oppo of conventional wisdom. Michigan's defense not very good and Indiana's isn't either. IU good passing attack but hasn't been able to run up the middle in a power running game since the 1990's. I got IU +13 with a local, but didn't want to post when it wasn't available. Tough to play IU +10 now even though they have a decent chance to win here. Still not sold on Michigan. If you had to play it now, Michigan -10 would be the play, but I also don't like laying DD with a bad defense on the road. 117/118 Northwestern/Minnesota UN 55
156 Illinois (+17') Also a little on +10 for 1st Half. Illini off a bye. Ohio State only laid -14 at home LY and now lay -17' on the road to the same team. 175/176 Penn State/Iowa UN 41'
195 UL Monroe (+35) (-101) Also small on first half +21. Auburn has been off 3 tough games (at Miss St, Clemson and South Carolina) and won all 3. They have at Kentucky next week, so the clinker may be coming here. 197 Florida Atlantic (+21') Lost at home to North Texas as 10-pt favs. You never have the same team two weeks in a row.
159/160 Northern Illinois/Akron OV 47 160 Akron (+14) (-109) Akron allows 4.5 ypc, so NIU will be able to move the ball and score. Akron had their best offensive week off the season LW and moved the ball fairly easily at Indiana. NIU laid -12 at home LY and now lay -14 on the road. 3rd straight road game for Northern Illinois. Good spot for a winless Akron team who will play hard at home. 165 Wyoming (+4) Wyoming not as bad as they look. They played 3 quality opp with 2 covers (at Texas, Boise and Air Force). They caught Boise off a bye and were dealing with death of a teammate that whole week after a game at Texas and got crushed. Toledo is off 3 straight underdog wins on the road (Ohio, W Michigan and Purdue). Now they come home for the homecoming game and also have road trip at Boise on deck. Perfect spot for the Rockets to have a failure to launch.
141/142 Idaho/Western Michigan OV 57' Lots of questions on Idaho defense. Colorado State had been avg 275 total yards per game and then they put up almost 500 on the Vandals. W Michigan off a bye week as well to work out their kinks.
111 Ball State (+18) Ugly dog here. Ball St got drilled badly at Iowa and looked terrible. Central Mich outgained NW and got a backdoor cover. Taking a shot here as I think CMU is a little overvalued. 145 Navy (+10) AFA has circled this game all year to finally win the CIC (Commander In Chief's) Trophy, but this is way too many points to give to a Navy team that also runs the triple option. Navy also off a bye week. Thinking that Navy's struggles with Ga Southern is playing too much into this line.
