AZ CARDS, 4th and 1, 5:00 to go, TEN 45, PUNT

AZ CARDS, 4th and 1, 5:00 to go, TEN 45, PUNT HORRIFIC decision. HORRIFIC. Coaches are such wimps. A fake punt was clearly the call here.......OR go for it. At least, try to draw them off.
It was the right call here. Make Vince Young go 80-90 yards to beat you. He did. That Tenn D is tough and then you turn momentum if you fail on a 4th down. Punt was the right call in this situation.
It's so far from the right decision it is baffling to hear anyone support it.
Didn't Tennessee start the drive from the 1 yard line? I see the point of going for it but it's not the coaches decision that was wrong it was the defensive players faults.

Or give credit to Tenn players and Young making all those plays and 3 4th down conversions[/B]. Unreal. Tip your cap to them. You can make a case either way but I was watchign with DEEP interest on Tenn ML, -2 and -3. I said they should punt with no doubt.
Your odds of getting a 1st down on 4th and 1 is (I'm guessing) 70-80% if not higher. So you have a 75%+ of keeping the ball. A 25% chance of giving them the ball at the 45. You punt: 50-60% chance of the ball at the 20 30% between the 5 and 20 5% inside the 5 if even that high 5% it gets returned past the 20. I'll try to keep the ball thank you very much.
Going for it was by far and away the correct play. I had Tenn tickets and was very pleased they punted. Maybe if my defense was Pittsburgh with a crappy o-line I punt, but I don't want to give the ball to VY and give him a chance to win the game. No thanks.
Ten actually drove 160 yards for the winning TD Started from the 1. They drove the field, and fumbled. Back again at the 1. Ditto. When will coaches realize that if you are up under 7 and you give up the ball, you don't have a massive edge, just the advantage. I am convinced I should be making 2 million a year for an NFL team, just barking out the right call. While ranting, I might add I will 1. Program my D to look for 2nd and 10 runs after unsuccessful passes on 1st down. Teams run WAY too often here, something like 70%. 2. When facing 3rd or 4th and short, I NEVER use a 'jumbo' backfield. I use 4 WRs and my running back finds a hole more often than not. 3. About 20 other things including my basic stratetgy facing fourth and 3 or less at midfield or past it, is to ALWAYS go unless I can find a good reason NOT to (a good example would be with a good kicker 4 and 3 from the opponents 25.
Interesting points Fez, I completely agree with the never using Jumbo package. Any other ones you have, I'd be interested to hear.

"Oh No, Possibly 30 yards worse of field position!!"
