The primary advantage is that you can bet futures without tying up money.
I see two potential disadvantages. One is that if you're not disciplined, it's easy to underestimate your outstanding exposure. The second is that you're often dealing with two entities rather than just one, and this may increase the odds that you'll get shafted.
On balance, I believe the advantages generally outweigh the disadvantages.
