CFL FOOTBALL Sat 403 Calgary at Hamilton OV 51 Calgary put up 30 points against the Argos who have a decent defense and we expect them to post something near that number here vs. a Hamilton defense that just surrendered 49 to Winnipeg. Calgary's offense despite long in the tooth, had 300+ passing from QB Henry Burris, 100+ rushing from RB Reynolds, +100 receiving from WR Bryant, and as usual their offense is already clicking early in the season. Former Calgary QB, quarterback coach now calling the plays is Dave Dickenson and has publicly mentioned, "We are going to outscore everybody with this line-up." Hamilton which made several off-season moves and who is expected to have a big year, should have a much better game/effort making their season home debut in front of a sell-out crowd. This total is low. I made the number 54.5 and did not think they would hang anything less than 54 given the offenses, reputation and history of these two higher scoring squads.
I played Ham (-1.5 & -2 reduced) total 1.5 units. Excellent spot (0-1, home opener off embarassing loss = solid effort here)vs 1-0 Calgary with Argo's (again) on deck in a nice, 1:00 p.m. eastern start.
Cal/Ham on the NFL network, 10:00 a.m. pacific.
Hamilton did everything they could to lose that Not scoring from the 1.5 yard line not taking the point when punting into the wind from the 40 2 missed FGs and too many runs when the pass was working well. thigpen did all the work on offense. their OC, or whomever does the play calling, isnt very good

Wow, I found a 1.5 and they go up by 2 with only 1 minute...ouch. Thx anyways Londo for the efforts.
At the end, they could have gone for the single instead of the field goal and forced overtime, right? That's not the better strategic play than a field goal from a rookie kicker on the road? Totally grasping at straws here, but that's what Kelly criterion betting is for.
Hamilton did indeed find every way they could to not win this game...failing to score from the 1.5 yd line; very conservative (run) play calling (end of 1st 1/2 to give Calgary an extra possession resulting in 3 points); and again on key drive late in the 4th quarter that resulted in a field goal instead of 7); missed field goals the icing on the cake. But the bottomline seems to me that they were badly outcoached. But shoulda/coulda/woulda doesn't mean a thing...a loss is a loss. Ouch...and we move on to tonight's game in which I pass (lean BC only on strength of 1) Sask letdown? and 2) Empire Field hype and festivities...it will be rocking...EXTRA home field advantage for this first BC outdoor game only. Still...no play for me.
