CFL---Week #7 I haven't had time to follow up any of my CFL thoughts since a few weeks ago so I'll give a preview of what I see for this week.
Here is what is frustrating if you're a Vegas Insider subscriber. Go click on the injuries for the Edmonton/Montreal game and it doesn't even pop up Fred Stamps who is Edmonton's top receiver and probably one of the league's best and he's out for a month or 2 months and that is irritating. I had to get that from the CFL site. What other injuries am I missing on any variety of sports when I use them as a source for injuries? I'd hate to think I have to add to my day reviewing other injury reports since I pay for this service....but whatever.
I don't really have a strong opinion on this game. I did hear something that Edmonton was practicing in Winnipeg? I'm not sure what that was about. Seems strange. My first thought was travel but it can't be that can it? Extra days in a Winnipeg hotel that makes no sense from a cost perspective. Just don't know.
Edmonton is for real but I think Stamps might be the 2nd receiver down for them. It is probably a tough spot. At the beginning of the week I was hoping to see Edmonton +7 but never did and then found out about Stamps. Just don't have a feel myself of this game.
For that Argos/Hamilton game, the Argos are +7.5 and I bet that already at reduced juice. I think this is a pretty decent bet. They fired their Defensive Co-Ordinator but his replacement is someone who was already on the staff and was an Argo play Steinauer. Not sure if that will help hopefully it won't hurt. The Argos sometimes seem to have a good D Line but it was crappy against Montreal. Big time crappy. And Calvillo just picked them apart. There has to be adjustments there. They've lost a few guys to injury which I knew from my last post would be an issue. Definitely risk here.
But they are 1-5 and they're probably better than that. Boyd returns this week. Lemon is better than he was a few weeks ago. Maybe he gets it. I think they can actually throw a bit now. Hamiton has a lot of talent but 7.5 seems too much to me. They shoot themselves in the foot lots of times. Toronto might win this.
Calgary/Sask I want to bet Sask as the dog but I watched them fall apart against BC. Their punter/FG kicker Johnson or Johnston---man that was a bad game for a guy trying to earn a living kicking in any pro league. Wasn't really mentioned enough by the announcers. Sask was in better shape to make that a game against BC but they had some really atrocious punts which of course are just back breaking.
He kicks the ball. It is too short. Most of the Americans on the punt coverage team barely know the no yards rule. In fact they don't know so they take that penalty on top of a short punt. This happened three times. He seemed like he netted about 10 yards on some of these babies.
Sask still doesn't look great. They're missing Cates....they're not as good anymore that is all there is to it. Maybe at home +4 is good. People are betting that way. Maybe they're desperate enough to win.
BC/Winnipeg....situational bettors rejoice. Winnipeg 2 weeks ago a favourite coach dies. They get up and win. Last week Edmonton is undefeated comes to town and they win. All right go to Vancouver and play one of the bottom feeders....what are you supposed to do? Bet against Winnipeg I guess.
But I guess the linesmakers think like I do because BC is the favourite. All season BC is overrated it seems---people expecting more from them. That is the story. Alf and Londo they've lost on BC in good spots. They finally won last week. They get Arland Bruce this week which will help them. Lulay is good. He needs to make better decisions. They're running the football more. I think they can win this.
Probably not the time but have you ever noticed Vancouver, Los Angeles, etc. to me their home field, home ice, etc. is always overrated. I always find these west coast teams do better on the road than you would think. The Canucks did well at home last year but they were just good. In other years, I swear they're never really any good at home. The Kings to me aren't that great at home.
Anyway, BC Lions, they stink at home too. Been lousy at Empire Field. I actually bet this PK -115 but I needed a betting exchange to do it. Hoping BC gets it done in an obvious good situation for them. If they lose this one, they just aren't that good already and don't deserve the respect they get for a team that didn't win their first game until last week.
I'll be interested in what the board players got.
