come on guys, was it the right call or not?

they also needed to let the rb score on that run- i believe thsoe were the instructions from doom but they didnt execute it
i estimate they were +300 to +320 to lose the game if they go for it in that exact situation and roughly the same odds to lose the game if they punt the ball to indy and give them the ball at an average yard line of say their own 30 with 2:00 left and 1 timeout. definitely not extreme one way or the other. ..and of course it would have benefited new england greatly had they let that breakaway runner score rather than tackle him at the 1 yard line, 1st and goal with a minute or so left.
Brady said something very important in the interview after the game: "We practice that play all the time and have it down." This was not a rash or rushed decision. Belichick had thought about it, analyzed it, practiced it, and was prepared to pull the trigger. In similar situations in tournament play, it's stong to take a shot on winning on the hand before the final, even if your position on the final hand is diminished if you miss. Usually, if you win on the penultimate hand, it's over, but if you lose, you still have a chance. Very similar circumstances here.
Perhaps the best discussion then here would relate to how NE had to use that 2nd TO at 4Q 2:23 between the NE kick return and the next offensive play. No one seems to be talking about how big a blunder that was. There was no reason to burn a TO there as any offense would have come off the sidelines ready to go after the kick return. This wasn't a situation where the teams lined up and Brady was confused by the coverage with the play clock running out. NE took that 2nd TO before the offense even broke the huddle to run their first play. That blew my mind more than going for it on 4th down. If NE doesn't use that 2nd TO, they still have one left to challenge the 4th down play. I have racked my brain trying to figure out a real football reason NE burned that 2nd TO, and am drawing blanks.
I agree 100%. Too many coaches waste their time outs.
