Countermeasure vs Basic Strategy Teasers This is not a good development. Starting to see some offshores use
a different payscale if your teaser crosses or touches both the 3 & 7.
In other words, if you want to bet a basic strategy teaser you are going
to get a different pay scale and the tax on your teaser is pretty
extreme. Enough that it makes them completely unplayable.
A standard 4 team 6 pt teaser at the book below pays +300
but if your teams all interact with the 3 & 7 you now get paid
+163. That's about a 46% tax on your win.
A 3 teamer that normally pays +180 would only pay +116,
a 36% tax on the win and a 2 teamer that normally pays +100
now will cost -134. If you steer clear of the 3 and 7 you get
the good payoff, otherwise you pay the "tax" for the 3-7 corridor.
The "new" pay scales incorporated a modest 5% bump up to all
the pays IF you do not use ANY legs that touch 3 or 7. They are
advertising that they have new and improved payout odds due
to this increase for those who have no idea how to bet a teaser.
The subsequent "Premium" payscale for those touching the
3 and/or 7 is presented as some kind of addendum as if it is
a secondary change. The truth is that the low-pay Premium pay
scale is the primary change. They bumped the other pay scale
in order to claim they've improved the payoffs.
What the book has really done is declare that they no longer want any
teaser action from anyone with any idea how to bet them.
