Defenses that get hit for interfence on 3 yard passes.........
The rules are the same for everybody. Figure out how to take advantage of the rule, don't complain about it.
Its a stupid rule period. With the strenght, size and speed of todays NFL WR's and DB's there is always going to be a certain amount of contact. Most of the officials get that call wrong all of the time. Stupid rule.

The officials just follow the rules, just like the teams should. Throw a lot of bombs to your big, strong WRs and you'll get PI calls. Instead of complaining about how dumb the rule is or how officials call it too often, take advantage of those facts.
Tribe, no, never coached but wish I had gone into it with BB. Hard choice as you make nothing unless you hit a HC opp at big school. But I totally agree with Fez that gamblers understand the game better than most and even some coaches (at least situational). And we all know the LVSC poll should be used in the BCS versus any other one. When gamblers watch games they think ahead big time because they know how their winning bet could still lose or their losing bet could come back (with or without coaching blunders). LOL. When I was watching the Jet game I was begging for them not to hold or fumble on the 3rd down play because I knew that is how they could screw up the FG attempt and me eventually lose the bet - which of course happened.

The game to them is much more important than your bet is to you. Do they make mistakes? Sure, but they are allowed a margin of error just like anybody else and they make a billion decisions a game. All the more reason to have a "strategy" coach like that article about the dude from the Patriots. Coaching is a lot harder than most think - players often don't do what they are told. Example from last night - just look at Brandon Marshall. He's obviously a jackass, but no amount of coaching is going to change that, and he clearly needs to still be on the field since he is a game changer. You can't "coach out" his immaturity. In your example, I'd blame the moron offensive lineman that held more than the coach who I'd wager has taught him over and over again that the worst thing that you can do in that situation is hold.
Declining that has got to be correct. Don't think it's close, really.
You talking about declining that penalty which then allowed them to kick a 44-yard FG? Normally I would agree with you but for that particular 10 yard stretch on the field I would have actually taken that penalty.

Normally I would agree with you but for that particular 10 yard stretch on the field I would have actually taken that penalty.
I was leaning that way as well, but I think the clock was in a tricky range. If the other team ends up converting a first down you are also cheating the time on your final possession.
I'll never understand why: In an NFL game when the score is like 3-0 for 3 quarters each team runs the ball 2 or 3 times and throws 2 yards. If you have not moved the ball 10 yards in a half, wing it 50 yards down field three times and then punt. If it gets picked who cares and maybe you'll catch one or get interference. Same thing on small college teams. When E. Bumfuck FL plays FL, why does E Bumfuck run on first and second down. Does the coach not realize he is outweighed by 50 lbs at every spot? Throw it 50 yards down field 3 times every time you have the ball!
i understand your point regarding the nfl, but that's make all the bloated staff look foolish and unnecessary. when it's east bumfuck, i think it's more venal. i think the strategy you described makes it look like they're trying while shortening the game, so they can get out of dodge with the money. like delaware state

You guys might be right, I'm not sure. I just don't want them to get another chance at picking up the first down.
