Denver HAS to let them score.....WHAT R THEY DOING??? These coaches are incompetent.
Agree, but I think they're wise to it. Eagle would run to the 2 and stand there. Then what? Opposite tug-o-war?
These coaches are incompetent.
at what point would u have let them score?
Denver should have let them score when there was 55 seconds left and Denver still had two timeouts. Not even a close call. Tough, though, for a young, rookie coach to do; much easier for a Belichek.

westbrook has done it before, he would take a knee inside the five. then den would have to use a time out and philly would (presumably) take a knee, this process would repeat itself and then philly would have an easier fg then what they kicked. the better play is to go for the strip. philly still had the ball on teh 15. holding, bad snap, blocked fg, shank, all could happen. bad idea here to try and let them score
It's OK to let them try. But as you say (and I said earlier), I don't think they will anymore.
Phi was NOT trying to score a TD. And, yes, this type of thinking could get scary. Let's say you are down by MORE than 1 point (say 2-8 points). Do you let them score, and hope for a quick TD, a recovered onside kick, and another quick TD. That is possible, while letting the clock run out is a cinch loss.
problem is if you let them try and fail you're making the fg a chip shot. from the 15, a lot more bad things can happen
Yes, this could accelerate into many levels and might eventually stall. But I think the point of all the "coaches don't get it" threads here are on the mark. How many times have the great game players here thrown up the proverbial Hail Mary in a game of Monopoly or Stratego, or in a tournament of any sort? I think these threads are on the mark that, as brilliant as they are at many things, the coaches are behind the curve on this type of thinking.
i agree there are instances when coaches clearly make the wrong decision but it's prolly not as often as people think.
