Kick the extra point down 19-21 with 18:00 to go? Lose by 1.
.......nothing you can do, an Act Of God.
Go for 2 and miss? Call out the coach for his incompetence......
Saw the media bias on ripping on the coach in the Pitt game. Pitt 4th down around the other guys 45, 38 seconds left. Dave W correctly runs down the clock, then goes for it with :09 left. Announcers rips him for bad clock management......AND HE GOT IT RIGHT!!!!
Going for two down by two is the correct play depending on whose chart you're holding. Some charts have going for two as optimal anytime in the second half, some don't, and I would suppose who you have or how the game is going makes a difference also.
A low-scoring game might call for going for two a lot farther out time-wise than if the game is a shoot-out. In situations where it's not obvious, I would say proper clock management would call for factoring in:
1.Present Score
2.Time remaining
3.High scoring or low-scoring game
4.Personnel factors (good or bad kicker not in kicking the extra point unless you're down to the ball-boy as kicker, but factoring in kicker as in field goals you may need to kick the rest of the game based on the score, defense ability to stop other team, offense ability to score, combination of two, etc...)
5.Any other factors affecting the game.
